    Hi All

I am having a nightmare with trying to insure my van. Any help appreciated here...

    Scenario:
I bought a 1984 vw transporter camper van. The vehicle was insured with a 3rd party broker with a policy underwritten by axa for 8 years previous to me buying the vehicle. The van was imported from Germany 8 years ago and when the guy that imported it registered the van as a 'private van'. Since I bought the van I have not been able to get insurance as the vehicle is currently NCT (valid until Dec this year) and not CVRT. Even the same company that had been insuring the van for the last 8 years

You need to get it converted on the book to camper then be grand

Yep, the next logical step is to register the van as a commercial vehicle, I contacted my local motor tax office, no help, referred to NCT, I spoke to NCT and they say vehicle registered before they existed so they cant help. I then contact my VRT office (I'm in limerick - my local VRT office is cork)

It is a leave message and call back service. I have left a few messages but have not had a call back.

Does anyone have any experience in this process ? I'm tempted to just go to cork and knock on the door at this stage.

    Any help appreciated

I think you need someone to sign off on a conversion i think it is an SQI or is that only for private to commercial conversion

Yeah if I could get someone at VRT I would confirm that

I just got a quote from a specialist insurer for vintage\classic cars, They seemed happy with NCT (not CVRT) and will cover it 3rd party fire and theft. So things are looking up.
