Applying for jobs while waiting for outcome of interviews etc?

Hello. I'm currently unemployed and looking for a job. I applied to a graduate scheme a while ago and was lucky enough to get to the final round which will be next week. I'm still not guaranteed the job but obviously my chances have increased since I first applied. I'm wondering though - is it okay to apply for other jobs while I wait for the results of the grad programme? What would happen if I got another job offer before the result of the grad programme, and then I ended up getting the grad programme too? Would it be very bad to have accepted a job and then maybe only a week or 2 later turn it down (if I happened to get the position in the grad programme)?

I'm wondering if maybe I should just wait until I hear the outcome of the grad programme before applying for other jobs? Only problem is it could be another few weeks before I hear the final result and if I don't get it I may have missed out on other opportunities in the meantime. Any advice on this sort of situation?

  • Of course its ok!

You always always have to do whats best for yourself, if you get more than one job offer take the job you feel is best for you. Don't wait for the outcome of the grad interview because as you say yourself that could be several weeks of you missing out on other job opportunities. Apply for as many jobs as you find interesting/suitable for you.

Read through this forum and you'll come across endless examples of people posting that they're dropping out of this job or that job hunt due to getting a better job / better pay / job closer to home etc.
Most people keep several irons in the fire if only to keep busy.
