Someone might add the cool pictures of the outline of the route, they might not, either way it's the big one in terms of mountains in what's been an incredible race. As far as coverage goes ITV4 seem to have coverage from 2.15 to 4pm which I for one have no problem getting - if that's any consolation to anyone.
Froome obviously the favourite for the stage but it's been full of drama for a while with Sky's efforts trumped by Bardet's crazy descending & Nibali & the gang's crazy attacking, so who knows what'll happen. Van Garderen has also been in great form so even if Nibali's climbing reverts to what he showed 2 days ago & after his efforts yesterday, TVG might prove a very hard rider to dislodge for Sky in the GC stakes.

It would be a lot better if they started coverage earlier. We missed a good bit of action yesterday.

Yeah, checked this morning and there was no live coverage listed because of tennis and LeMans.

It's not listed as being in HD though.

About 60km left, and the breakaway have a lead of 2'10" as they near the summit of the Cat. 1 Col de la Croix Fry.

Seemingly there are 26 riders in the breakaway: Jonathan Castroviejo, Gorka Izagirre (Movistar), Chris Anker Sørensen (Tinkoff-Saxo), Louis Meintjes (MTN-Qhubeka), Pierre Rolland (Europcar), Alexis Vuillermoz (Ag2r-La Mondiale), Pawel Poljanski, Chris Anker Sørensen (Tinkoff-Saxo), Marcel Wyss, Jarlinson Pantano (IAM Cycling), Tiago Machado (Katusha), Björn Thurau, Bartoz Huzarski, Dominik Nerz (Bora-Argon 18), David De La Cruz, Pieter Serry (Etixx-QuickStep), Bauke Mollema, Ricardo Zoidl (Trek Factory Racing), Nathan Haas (Cannondale-Garmin), Kenny Elissonde (FDJ), Nicolas Edet, Daniel Navarro, Luis Angel Maté (Cofidis), Louis Meintjes, Daniel Teklehaimanot (MTN-Qhubeka) and Pim Ligthart (Lotto Soudal)

Team Sky are leading the peloton. Simon Yates (4th overall) appears to be struggling to hang on.

3 climbs left: 3rd Cat. Col de Aravis; Cat. 1 Cote des Amerands (it's not really a Cat. 1 though); and the final climb Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc (Cat. 1).

Sky are drilling it and have already distanced poor Simon Yates

Also Teklehaiminot of MTN picked up the mountains points at the first climb and may keep his jersey. I would absolutely love him to win it.

According to live updates there's a big break out front of about 20 something riders around 1:10 ahead. Sky bombed it up Col de la Croix Fry and theres less than 50 in the peleton.

No he's sitting in behind froome. He'll probably be the last sky rider left with froome

Yesterday I suppose he could have been alongside Froome reciting 'The Circus Animals Desertion' along with meaningful glances up the road.

Can anyone tell me what happened to dan martin today. He was in the froome group at the top of the second last climb but was nowhere to be seen at the bottom of the last climb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 myshall1993

Someone must know what happened to dan between the last two climbs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

More or less to expectation today I thought, tailor-made for Froome, the lads from yesterday being dismissed from the GC reckoning but with TVG riding strongly enough to hold onto yellow. Should make it very exciting for the overall tomorrow.

Was wondering what happened to. I seen him in the group at the start of last climb. He must have stealthily went out the back as non of the commentators seen him go either.

That's terrible! I'd say if he didnt have a flat he would have finished before talansky and have moved up in gc. He was looking good alll week yesterday especially.

From start of ITV's coverage I thought TVG came across very likeable in interview. He put in another great ride but I wonder should he have played a bit of poker with Froome and just refused to work with him, sitting on his wheel. Froome seemed unwilling to do any work at the front yday when TVG was working at the front. Was TVG being a bit too honest by comparison today?

On the coverage side of things, I think David Millar is obviously very early days in his commentary career & I think he's improving, but ITV's main guy - god I can't stand him. Just suffocates the race with his talk. It's not radio, let the viewer have some bloody space.

That's so unlucky. You could see the way he was finishing the stage that he was going well. And made it over the second last climb in the froome bunch. Hopefully he can move up the gc tomorrow, he deserves some good luck

Phil Deignan and Nico finished together in 40th and 41st place, 8'56" behind Froome. The two lads seem to disappear out the back when Kennaugh turned on the afterburners on the penultimate climb.

Poels, Kennaugh, and even Boswell seem to be making better cases to be in the TDF team than Deignan and Roche...

Are they saving themselves for tomorrow?

Boswell won't go to the Tour imo ...not enough experience in a GT tour and still very young

Poels dropped on TTT but is defo going to Tour imo...very good performance today & Thursday

Nico would prob have pulled earlier if not further down the line today ..though yesterday was bad & TTT not great

Deignan very good in bad weather and on steady high climbs but fast pace maybe an issue

Kennaugh great today but dropped on Thursday & yesterday

Mixed bag...not good from Nico for sure but imagine consistency over 3 weeks is key to Tour selection and being top in 3rd week (so form might still need work) and also won't be last in line when Porte back in....

Possibly lined rotated with Poels & Henao depending on terraine, fatigue & legs

But SKY have so many good riders in the wings like Nieve & Kirienkya , Thomas & Konig ...I expect last camp at altitude will decide & nothing is certain

Roche is the road captain and Deignan has been perfectly fine in this. The only person left with Froome yesterday and excellent in the TTT despite not being a renowned trialist. They'll be grand.

We didn't see it on TV but from reports Roche was doing a lot of early work in the stage and the dropped back
