I am thinking about buying a car but it is in Cork and I am in Dublin....there are other cars of this type closer to me but I like the look of this particular one but it is a long trek with how busy I am at the moment its kind of tricky to find the time. I know the type of car well and I have driven them, its an Alfa 159, are there companies that do this? I know the AA do is there anyone else? I would normally get my own mechanic to do this but because of the location it would be a lot to ask

Personally I would make the time to check it out myself. I have bought a few Alfas and wasted a lot of time travelling to see them to find that they are junk. However I wouldn't trust somebody else to check the car for me. Paid or otherwise.

    Maybe I'm just fussy though...

Previously I have organised a local main dealer mechanic to look over a car for me. They class it as a pre-nct check but make sure you speak to the mechanic personally afterwards. At least then the person who has had it up on the ramps can point our anything they may have spotted.
In my case it was a bit of repair work I would never have noticed. The mechanic was very helpful in his opinion of the car in general also. I did this in the full knowledge that the car may also pack in 15miles down the road, and no fault of the mechanics.
Failing that I'm sure you could ask here for a local trusted mechanic who could give it a once over. Certainly cheaper than the AA

The AA won't plug in a scanner/fault code reader. Just something to be aware of.

*Underbody Inspection where a ramp is available. We don't connect diagnostic equipment to vehicles as part of our inspection.
