Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

I've just finished my undergrad law degree and will be taking the entrance exams in August.

Anyone else here going down this year?

Is it not the PPC course you're looking for if you're thinking of doing some 'going down' before you qualify?

Bit presumptious? Are you sure you are going to pass?

Ive heard the numbers going to the inns have been decreasing each year from a high of over 200 a few years ago. Anyone have any further info?

Youll never pass. I have never met a barrister in practice that ever gives a definitive unqualified answer.

Equivocation is essential as a general rule. But there are exceptions.

Given the uncertainty generated by the Legal Services Bill most people are holding off to see if there is a Bar to come down to.

I did the Inns straight after college. My advice would be not to be in a rush. Real life experience, which I think they call 'cop on', is genuinely valued at the bar, unfortunately. Then again, some people do make a great go of it. Best of luck and be sure to ask any specific questions we might be more useful with.

And, damn I wish I'd thought of your username.

Doing it next week too. Btw, how do you study Constitutional law?(abit late to ask, just wanted to know if I may have done/doing it right)

Focus on personal rights for study, and if you get stuck answer the question on the pesident or the composition of the oireachtas (these questions are a bit easier because youll have the constututional provisions in front of you.

Hot topics this year could include the new court of appeal, the protection of the family, the exclusionary rule and the various challenges to the referenda. I dont have any special insight into the examiners - these are just things that have happened in constitutional law since the last exam. Throw them in if you can

I agree with JS. Don't ignore evidence rules in constitutional law either, such as exclusionary rule and rights in custody, etc.

More recent cases, such as the challenges to the Referendum on Marriage rights should be looked at.

Rights are huge. Privacy, dwelling, expression, family, conscience, etc.

Charter of Fundamental rights post Lisbon should be looked at.

Delegated legislation has also been newsworthy.
