Hi. Bought a ferguson ridger old tool. Was going to earth up there and realised to my dismay the mf 240 is cat 2 ( i think) can you suggest what i can do as i thought the mf 135 was the same as the 240 . See pics attached
Link arms wont go in past the bolts on the ridger

could you make a new bracket from some angle iron and move the 3 point frame a bit further out from the ridger frame?

That is strange to have a bolt there where the lift arm is to go on. You could cut off the bolt head and weld on the bracket instead or remove the bolt and put it back on when the lift arms are on. It is all so awkward!

hope this helps, just make the distance between the bolts heads(red) and pin(yellow) to suit

Are you sure that bolt is right? The one inside it seems a lot lower?

Could you put in a bolt with a countersunk kinda head?
Google 'plough bolt' to see what I mean... Might work, might not...
    :(

Yep seems a daft layout alright. Its a ferguson ridger with badge still on. But i dont know the machines enough to know if some one has been bodging before. The bolt wud definately lete me hook up if i got.it off. Terrible design if thats the way it was supposed to be ?

Surprised it wont fit a 240 but you have a thick wall in those balls., I have one that I use on a Dexta. Tried it on the Fiat once and of course it wont fit. what I did was, unbolted the two "pins" from the ridger, put them through the lift arm balls, and then bolted them onto the ridger again.

The inside bolt head on the bracket, shown in your picture, looks like it was ground down in the past to allow clearance.

I could be completely wrong on this but take a look at the balls on the other end of the link arms i.e. the ones bolted to the underside of the rear axle. I think on some machines the balls were Cat 1 on one end and Cat 2 on the other

First thing I'd do is change out those cat1 balls and put in cat2. If you turn the ball so that the hole is hidden, you will see a flat and a key that fits through the notch in the lift arm to let it slip out.

Most of the 100 series came with a spare pair in the tool box. They are only a few euro anyways if you have to buy a set. This will give more clearance, whether it's enough is hard to say looking at photo.

they are all like that!, we have a ferguson grubber with same setup, it will fit the 35 arms but would not fit the MF148 with slightly heavier arms (still only cat 1 tho). we took out the outside bolt and left the other two holding it, still a very tight fit though as when you push the arm on it it actually hits on the bracket its self (were it starts to curve out above the inside bolt), but allows just enough room to get a lynch pin dropped through the hole.
the arms on your 240 look heavier again so even if you get it past the bolt I dont think you will get the arm pushed far enough onto the pin to allow you to drop a lynch pin though the hole if you know what i mean.

They (grubber, plough etc.) were designed for the 20.

Hi there i dont follow . Is not the balls it the actual rim of the arm so to speak that wont fit past the bolt. Maybe change the bolts .

Go look at a 20 arm and ball. You wouldn't put it on a quad nowadays.

I understand your problem well. If you took out the balls altogether are you saying she still wouldn't slip on?

get 2 new bolts ,, shear off the 2 existing if they are seized

put on arms, put new bolt in place tighen,

taking off remove bolts , won't add 2 minutes to your hook up/off time

Buy coach bolts a replace all 3 bolts on each side.

Screwfix stock them and any good hardware store/co-op/garage that deals in heavy machinery will have them in stock.

hi muckit. I never though on that, although i still dont think ti will work but never know till i try, also someone suggested she may have cat 1 arms on the other side. im not sure that it does. Also not sure if the arm is sturdy enough or desgin to pull without the ball in it? you probably know more about it that i do . re the arms on a t20, yep they definately have a small wall so to speak .

Neighbour has a ferguson ridger on a 7610.

Op, replace both bolts on either side with countersunk bolts, with 6 sided hole for Allen key.

Bolt like these, don't have to be stainless

could you cut the top off the bolt which would give you more room? add some weld between the ridger and the bracket to add strength?

(whatever you do, post a pic in the gunthering thread!)

Put the cat 2 eyes in the arms, it'll fit then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 588 ✭✭✭MFdaveIreland

Update. The ridger fois the 165 with small arms. Back wheel too big for drills though. Might see about pricing about cat 1 arms for the 240

Update got a counter sunk bolt. Ground the square insert of and she fits a treat. Cheaper than new arms for her . See pics . Had to take the thing apart to get the bolt in
