    Hi
Hopefully I can get some help on my predicament, recently got a qoute for new windows and a new front door, white PVC and a light oak front door. It's a small cottage so windows aren't massive our quote is €2900 now we are on a strict budget as I'm in college and only one of us working. Our dilemma is do we go with a new front door which is included in this price or do we buy a second hand front door and install it ourselves that way we save money on our budget as the door is the most expensive part of the qoute? I would love some advice on this as I'm jumping from keeping the door to not getting it at all

What size is the opening for the front door? There's a guy on adverts/done deal that will sell you new upvc Camden doors + frame for €375. He has 3 depots around ireland, doors are 900 x 2100, from memory. They aren't hard to fit just keep everything level and you'll be fine.

Thanks a mill for getting back to me I've just had a look at that guy on done deal and he looks promising and handy as he's in Galway and I'm not that far away. Gonna take a look today at installing the door ourselves and hopefully we will be able too. Your a star thanks a mill

Yea its all about the measure when installing doors/windows. Normally the actual opening is much bigger than the outer or inner revels. If your replacing the doors/windows get a chisel or large screw driver and knock some plaster off the outside and inside so you get an idea of how large the opening is.

You can install from the outside or inside, you will need to make the opening bigger for clearance getting the new frame in. When taking out the old just cut the frame in a few spots and bend it out. An SDS chisel is always hand and a grinder if you have one, you'll need to clean up the opening.

If its the same guy i got doors from, he supplies Camden doors from England, very good quality, you'll know that when you try lift them. There is steel inside the frame. I just took the door from the frame, fitted the frame (don't squash it or force into place). Also if your using expanding foam around it, jam a piece of 2 x 3 across the door at a few points to stop the frame from getting squished inwards by the pressure.
