I wouldn't put references on a cv or job application, always put on request. Employers know and don't expect you to have a reference from your current employer.

Did they ask for 2 job references? What about the jobs from before your current one?

What about a college? Could you get a reference from someone from a college course you attended or even your secondary school like your auld principle?

    Just some suggestions,

    ah God love him!
Okily dokily what about a teacher? I received referees from teachers when I started out in the working world. Never used/needed but it would be a second reference for you.

Another option would be a neighbour? Have you a close neighbour who would vouch for your character?

Sports: been involved in any sports where you could call on someone in authority there to assist?

    More suggestions,

The reference would be to speak of your character ; your way-of-being as such eg: time-keeping ; appearance ; manner ; behaviour ; dedication and/or commitment to xyz ; team-work examples and experiences etc etc.
It doesn't matter if a close friend, part of sporting organisation -> position on a committee? position of authority would be more appropriate that just a member of a team if you catch me :)

    Hope that helps,

Are there any managers you're on good terms with that could be a referee? Or someone senior that has left the company?

I'd be slow to accept a reference from someone in a sporting organisation unless it was a for a transition year student looking for work experience, or something like that. Not for someone with a decade plus of working experience.
