    looking for advice

have a batch of 3 month old fresian bull calves approx 100kg

getting 1.5kg of weanling ration per day and their fill of good quality

question is how long do i need to keep feeding meal?

have loads of quality reseeded grass so obviously want to keep the meal bill to a minimum

I have bucket reared calves and there getting same as yours. I'm goin to cut it down to .5kg per day when they go on the after grass.
There's no set rules. Some people give no meal but r great grassland managers. More feed all summer long. It's a handy way of spotting a sick one.
    Best of luck with them.

I used to bucket feed frieisan bull calves and we'd never give meal during the summer, but they'd always be grazing paddocks ahead of the adult cattle.
I'd feed meal from mid sept on

I give my bucket fed calves half kg per day all summer. Mix of soya meal and soya hulls for extra protein and fibre in their diet. I find it keeps them pushed on and helps them grow during the summer months. I want to put as big a frame on them as possible to get going pre 16mts.
