When braking I am getting a shudder in the steering wheel on my Citroen C4. Replaced track rod ends and drag links but still getting the shudder. New front discs and pads fitted ten months ago. The problem only started about 2 months ago. Any help would be appreciated.

Only thing I can think of is a wrapped disc.

Car is never driven hard. Surely the discs would not warp in then months?

Moved out from someone else's thread

    Probably discs.
It could be tyres or alloys too.
Move the front tyres to the rear and see if that helps.

If the discs weren't absolutely clean when fitted this can cause warping over time , it's the most likely/ only cause of shudder, borrow a dial gauge ,

Or a sticky caliper which has caused the disc the overheat and warp

It's still the most likely issue here...sometimes, with some discs at least, all you really need are one or two hard braking maneuvers - like an emergency stop on the motorway. Discs are relatively cool due to the air/wind, emergency brake -> they shoot up to red hot temperatures, car stops so no proper cooling, here's your warping served on a plate.

+1. Sticky caliper can cause the brakes to rub causing over heating and disc warping

I will switch the wheels around and see if that helps. My daughter's car has developed the same problem in the past two weeks. She drives a Citroen also but her's is less than 2 years old.

If it's only under braking then its a warped disc for sure.

Does brake pedal pulse at all during any type of braking?

    Yes.

It does sound like discs then. Pulsing pedal usually means uneven/warped discs.

Hot disc's going through a pool of water (big puddle) can result in warping, so a hard brake following by contact with water could be the culprit.

    +1 for a warped disc.
I had new discs fitted and started getting the juddering a while later.Had the discs replaced again and it solved the problem.I was told that some of the discs being sold by an online retailer in particular have a reputation for warping quite quickly.

Thanks for the help lads. Today I contacted the motor factor who supplied the new discs a few months ago and He will replace them free of charge tomorrow. I reckon I am not the oonly customer to have a problem with the brand of discs he was selling.

Picked up and fitted the new discs yesterday. Problem fixed! No charge for the discs. Thanks again lads.
