Clarckson, Hammond and May close to signing for Netflix to do a show. Top gear is dead in the water now and wouldn't be the same no matter who they bring in to hist it.

Top Gear is finished...doubt I'll watch it if the 3 lads aren't there. They made the show great.

I was in reluctant agreement with the BBC's decision on JC's sacking, that doesn't mean I'll be returning to the show unless the three lads are hosting it. Top Gear it's been a pleasure ...

I like Evans reporting style , it's a hangover from big breakfast ,TFI days ..
And to boot is a total petrolhead

I'm sitting on the fence !!

Hammond and May have recorded for the last two programmes that weren't shown apparently.
Evans might be watchable, depends who he's got with him and the interaction between them.

Why reluctant? Jeremy Clarkson assaulted one of his staff. There's nothing to be reluctant about.

Isn't Chris Evans a huge car nut? So it makes sense.

I don't think there is any saving the show without bringing the three lads back. Sacking Clarkson was the right thing to do but doing so has probably killed Top Gear.

I think there are some parallels between the Top Gear & Off the Ball lads moving onto pastures new.

That radio shows dynamic is certainly different without McDevitt, Ken Early & Murph, but there's still a lot to like about it that keeps me coming back. I absolutely didn't envisage that being the case when the boys initially walked from Newstalk. They seemed so intrinsic to the show that it looked an impossibility for it to continue without them. Even if the audience share diminishes in the early days of TG2, I can see it retaining enough of its core audience and perhaps attracting new viewers, who found Clarkson et al a little too Alan Partridge for their liking.

I don't think even Captain America can save Top Gear now

It hasn't been a car show for years.

It's a simple blokes travel/entertainment show with cars in it so Chris Evans fits perfectly.

Latest I've read is that the filming is not for Top Gear as such, but a segment in that style for TFI Friday. No change to the status of TG itself.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

So what is the latest status?

Top Gear makes the BBC a huge amount of cash and with the constant pressure that they are under over the license fee there's no way that they will kill the show off.

Evans is a decent choice to be honest. The show was craking and I'm sure the lads will benefit from the move over to Netflix.

Never liked Chris Evans. I for one will be tuning in to Netflix. And on that bombshell ...

Clarkson, may and Hammond are motor journalists, Evans is not, he's a dj who is a motor head with tonnes of white () rare ferraries and money.

He won't be able to hold a candle to those three, he has no qualifications to actually report about cars unlike the first three. Being a fanatic is not the same as actually being qualified and trained for your job.

Watch this space, the next person will be JK (jamerquai) who is a singer, but like Evans, is a car head but has no motor journalism experience.

The show is dead in the water, Netflix here I come!

Every week it's something new with top gear rumors. This guys got the show, yerone is on the new show, Clarkson, May and Hammond are going to ITV, no their going to Netflix. Hammond and May are working for Top gear, no they quit and went with Clarkson. I'll believe nothing until I see trailers.

I don't think May had any particular car qualifications. Same for Hammond. He is basically a radio jockey that somehow made it onto TV.

Evans probably has a better pedigree than the pair of them, he actually owns some of the most important cars ever made. You don't even get the chance to buy the kind of cars he owns without being very established in the scene, or being obscenely rich.

Without those 3 lads that show just won't be the same. I'll still watch it though but, can't see a major loss in ratings initially, but whoever they get - that person better be good or the show could fold after the next season.

Hammond was a motor journalist for Dave and men&motors doing small car review clips well before top gear. May was a sub editor for auto car magazine during the late 80s. Then he made his way up being a top gear magazine journalist and was also a motor journalist for the daily telegraph.

Evans may have some very exclusive cars, but he still painted them all white which goes against every Ferrari purist principals. He painted them all white because he had a white garage and had cars including Dinos, 308s and California's. He also painted F40s white. Obscenely rich indeed, but hardly a poster boy for the purists out there. He is a radio dj playboy.

The only car he didn't paint white is the 250GTO which he probably contemplated to go with his white garage!

Bet jaguar wouldn't give him a chance to buy the new E type GT.

May always seemed a bit inept when it came to cars though. He liked good engineering but he seemed to have grown a lot on top gear.

I don't mean to support Evans. I don't think he'd really make a good host for the show but I don't think you can get the cars he's gotten without knowing what your talking about. White is one of the official ferrari colours.

He may seem inept but he has the pedigree let's say, I think a lot of it is put on to have a "grumpy old man" aspect to the show. Plus a lot about cars is engineering at the end of the day :D

Regarding the White ferraris. White may be a recognised colour, however even's were not originally white. It's blasphemy I tells ya! He has a great collection which I would have if I had money.

Kim Jong il has an unreal car collection, not too sure he got them because he knew what he was talking about. Ferrari likes money, they don't care if you can't even drive :pac:

The 250gt was bought at auction for 12mil, anyone with that jingling in their pocket could have bought it. Certain rare new cars you need to be invited to buy, and I don't think Evans has the new jaguar super car. (Well until one comes up in auction!)

I'm not against Evans, I just don't think he'd he appropriate as a top gear presenter. It would be better to let the show die with clarkson, Hammond and may instead of letting it bleed out by using celebrity car enthusiasts. It would become more about the celebrity than the car.

I don't either, he would make an interesting guest presenter just to get a look at his cars but I don't think I could put up with him week in, week out.

Maybe top gear could go with a totally new format where they get rich guest presenters to bring in some of their favorite cars. That would be verging on an out and out car show though, the specials seem to get priority.

I reckon this is just a publicity stunt for his new show(well old restarted new show). First episode has Clarkson as a guest...so my thinking is they did a short top gear style segment for tfi Friday

Never watched the show because of the racist Clarkson. Will tune in now once he's gone.
