issue with Bosch fridge freezer KGV 2604

hi , I have a Bosch fridge freezer KGV 2604-gb/01. When I turn on power button compressor works fine until a certain temp is reached. Then it turns off. However the compressor does not turn on again as often as it should. it does turn on but not before items in the freezer defrost a little. I should add that this fridge freezer was given to a friend in which the ambient temp of house was lower than the temp in the fridge? I guess the thermostat went into idle mode for months on end. Could this be the central control unit? I guess its not the thermostat as it does come back on but not as often as it should?

    Thanks

if the fridge section is running a temp of + 2 to4 degrees approx. and then cutting out but not cutting back in it is stat related, if it is not reaching temp but running for long periods but then cutting out it is more than likely refrigerant related

hi Red Ace, thanks for reply. Sorry but when you say stat what does this mean? Unfortunately there isn't a temp gauge in the fridge section but the freezer reaches below 0C and the compressor usually turns off until the temp rises back to about 0C.

when I say stat I mean thermostat, that is what makes it cut in and out, to try and figure out what is going on on a diy basis you will need a thermometer to check what temperature the unit is reaching, if it is only reaching 0 degrees on the freezer compartment you will get food poisoning, the freezer section should be achieving somewhere between minus 18 to 20 degrees and the fridge section approx. plus 2 to 4 , if it isn't getting to these temps it most likely has a refrigerant leak. I am not sure whether that unit is stat or sensor controlled but they both do the same job.

Thanks Red Ace. Its the weirdest thing. I turned it on for about a week now. It had been powered off for a few months. The freezer only once must have gone above 0C as the food (im testing :) ) in there defrosted but it hasn't happened since. Its permanently frozen now. Gauge is currently as photo attached. looks like its about -25c ish. I have it at 5 on the temp dial now. Its always as you say below the 0C and more or less -10-15C when I check it. Will buy a thermometer for the fridge. Im now trying to test the temp regulator dial which goes from 1-5. Maybe one of these is faulty? Is this part of the thermostat? Never came across an electronic item that kinda works and then works consistently..weird.

velo 11,that looks like an electronic stat these rarely go faulty, just in case its a faulty power supply at the socket if you have an electric clock plug it in with a multi plug with the f/f and see if it loses time, that will tell if the socket is breaking down, btw do you have a velo

Thanks for your advice Red Ace. I made 2 hefty errors with this 1) As I was just testing the fridge I plugged it into an extension lead not directly into a wall socket and 2) very embarrassing :( Placed the fridge right in front of a rad! I thought it wasn't on but it was so the condenser coils must have been delighted. This was in retrospect when the freezer rose to 0C-ish. As the weather has been so good this only happened once but still...Obviously rad has been turned off at this point. Its still going strong. Turned dial down to one. Temp in freezer remains as is. I def noticed a slight rise in temp in the fridge section but obviously that would be the case. Btw I should call myself velos. I have 2 not 1 :) One road bike and one 'about towner' :) Fridge is heading to its permanent home today :) If it acts up I will follow your advice above. Thanks again
