He'd have been out sooner for murder.

Shockingly inaccurate article that, he hasn't been in the same slot for thirty years.
He had a long stint in the Mooney/D'Arcy slot in between. if anything, he was probably longer in the late afternoon slot than his time at lunchtime.

He only narrowly avoided gettingshafted to late date in 2006

He would have been excellent there I would think.

Alf runs Latedate like his own personal fiefdom, constantly slapping down listeners who ask nothing more than their favourite song to be played.

If I'm not mistaken, Ronan himself uttered an inaccuracy in the article. It is true that 36 years ago he would have come to RTE with Radio 2, but he had been with the pirates before that. I'm pretty sure he was with A.R.D. at the very least. So, not 36 years ago he came to the airwaves. This has been referred to before. I'm sure I heard tapes referencing him on "The Anorak Hour" on Phantom in the past.

Have to say the lad is past his sell by.

Nothing personal, but it's about the most boring predictable show on radio, apart from that crud between 0905 and 1000

I think the 'boring' aspect is by design, RTE Radio1 is all talk from 7 a.m. to 12 noon and they want a boring music slot between Sean O'Rourke and the 1 o'clock news.

Even if RC fell under the proverbial bus tomorrow, they would replace him with a cardboard DJ with the same style - just look at the people who substitute for him when he's away.

    You may be correct there.

I love the 'cardboard DJ' description.

Only thing that might trump it is ' Wind-Up DJ'

    Very very apt.:D
