Upgrading the i40 to...another (newer) i40

Basically my dad is thinking about changing his 2012 i40 to another i40 141-/142.

Is there any point to this?

I am unsure about it as the i40 that's been out since 12 has been pretty much the same since its release I would have imagined - or am I wrong on that? Has it even had a face-lift or anything like that yet?

I know there is a lot more electronics on cars these days and perhaps more to go wrong, but does that reason alone justify trading up but getting the same model only 2 years newer especially when, as far as I can tell, there has been no significant change to that particular model?

Anyone else think it might be a bit mad or is he right to go up another 2 years?

Alternatively I may be able steer him in the direction of a Skoda/Mondeo in the same price range.

Although the i40 is a very decent car all the same...

Jesus, reckon he's mad. My dad has a 2012 aswell and reckons its a pig of a car. Its a company car and will be changed this year,no way would he get another one.

I drove it the other day actually and the cabin noise is worse than my 10 yr old mk5 golf. To be fair though they are pretty well stacked with goodies as standard.

Id steer him, although the Mondeo is a much bigger car I would have thought. It seems a bit pointless to just move up a couple of years imo.

i40 has been unsale since the end of 2011, hasn't really changed since then but there is a facelift due very soon. A 141/142 reg one will probably be identical to what he has now.

Would he consider a Kia Optima? It's pretty much the same car as the i40 underneath but has the more powerful version of the 1.7 cdr engine and they are also higher spec.

I would wait until the new i40 is released, has to be next year.

I keep hearing bad reports about these but maybe it's just me.

Facelift i 40 hit the dealerships a couple of weeks ago. Exterior and specification changes, but haven't seen the inside yet. Ordered one but will be July registration at this stage.

Drove one for the first time on Tuesday. Not terrible, not great. It's booked in to the garage next Wednesday for the rattle in the dash to be looked at - less than a week old at this stage...

Dreadful car, had the misfortune of having one as a loan while mine was off road, even put a review/rant on here, the hyundai i40, the worst thing since that wee worm in the amazon that swims up your knob and lays eggs.

He should still have 2 years warranty left. I'd wait till that runs out.

At least they have put decent size alloys on the facelift, old ones are too small.

This thread is about a guy who bought one and now wants to buy another though.

Indeed it is and thread looking for opinions of i 40 as potential purchase. The fact that one of the biggest state purchasers of cars hve gone with them presumably after much research would be a vote of confidence in them as regards reliability at least.

Eh, no, the guards buy what they can get cheap.
