Is there gangs in Ireland that seek out English cars to rob?
Today an English import focus was stolen from my garage. Keys were left hanging in our key safe and yet within 55 seconds of the scumbag walking towards our garage he had the car and was gone? Never entered our garage for the keys either. 2014 ford focus black

Was the car still on UK plates?

    Was the car left open?
Is it possible the spare key was never handed over?

People will rob anything if they can.

If he never entered the garage how come the keys are gone from the safe ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

Your 1st post says they didn't come in so how did they lift the keys?

They could be using for a job switch plates, could be cloning and have a buyer lined up, strip for parts as there is good money in that now.

Any cctv or in the area even buses that could help cops identify?

Apologies for not being clear enough
On camera he never entered the garage yet had the keys
Camera shows him walking up the side entrance and within 55 seconds was gone with the car

So he hooked the keys or had he got in or had someone else left them out that was inside as in left them somewhere he could reach.

Cars on foreign plates stand out more so hopefully someone will have seen it. What kind of make and colour?

Is the v5 document in the car? Could the thieves have previously been looking around the garage and knew the document was present so picked that car to rob later?

Half the cars on Irish roads are foreign Reg, or Northern Irish.

I do not blink when I see an NI/ UK reg. Very Common... won't stand out one bit!

Since it's still on UK plates it will be very difficult to trace it here as it's not on the system yet. Very likely it will appear for sale in a couple of weeks on false or cloned plates and log book, being offered to some unsuspecting bargain hunter at a really good price.

Yes who will probably start a thread here about their loses. There's a lot to be said about buying a car from the owner rather than some middleman.

OPs story with the cctv is not adding up, is it an inside job or what? Or was it Troy that took the car?

Much more thought need to be out into the whole keys thing.

Surely the key safe isn't within fishing distance of the door.

To me that leaves the option of an inside job, someone arranged for the keys to be left out.

I worked in a dealers years ago and a high performance car was taken with keys. Someone had left keys on reception desk guy walks in puts price list over keys and keys were gone.
This was looking back over cctv when they noticed was gone.

Car was parked back up outside within 2 hours after a phone call and no questions asked.

Similar thing happened in a big dealers with a Scooby and it was parked back up within 2 days with dodgy plates now there was a pay off involved in both cases but nothing to what the cost of replacing the car.

Hopefully you got a good picture of him op.

    Update
The lad has been found. Car has not. And it seems it was an inside job though no one is owning up to it.
Lie detectors are now gonna be used

You should also have a sweat test done, that would definitely prove if he's lying!

    It is expensive though!

Lie detectors are of no use, can't be used in for court cases and can be easily fooled. Only way to find out who you can't trust is by a process of temptation and elimination, which is also most likely illegal.
