There exists an inevitability of words, phrases or retorts which crop up in every thread on this forum. Before it was 'yore ma', 'blast with piss' and so on. Now it's 'PM sent', 'FYP', various Father Ted and Simpsons references. Are we becoming a predictable site? Are we a derivative of sub genres and cultural motifs which arise non ending like. How much will this evolve eventually. If we went ten years into the future would we understand any of the allusions that posters would use? What other oft used phrase never runs out of steam?

    Tree fiddy. Remember that one?

When someone starts a celebrity thread you'll usually have someone ask "Who?"
I did it once way back when, before I could internet good and got given out to by posters that thought I was trying to make a joke.

It doesn't seem to be as bad now but I don't think it will ever fully go away.

I'm not! It's for the posters in 10 years time. Just saying :D

If you look back on the 1st 100 pages of After Hours, they make no sense :D
A fierce amount of banned posters and threads locked after 10 posts!! I'd say that was something to do with the gaming thing though??!

Whenever I go through old threads I just see loads of posters I don't recognise or are banned. Very few seem to make it through without re registering or changing their user names. Tis a fickle world we live in.I wonder do people just peak and leave?

It looks like people back then couldn't really manage coherent posts? Very strange. Dire threads altogether.

Jeepers those early threads are...what the **** are they? I do like the poems about the transparent fried egg and the lesbian seagull though. Also I've already gotten someone complaining that the internet isn't what it used to be :D

There are some pretty bad ones still. Now and again I'll see a thread pop up somewhere on the site but when I click on it, it's been deleted.
    Not always shill threads either.
Just the mods quick on the trigger I think.

As for being predictable of course it is. Anything with a large number of people on it will be predictable.
That's what makes the unpredictable stuff that happens on them so entertaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,711 ✭✭✭Joeseph Balls

When there was an argument, people ending their post with...

    FACT.

Just fcuk off. Not sure if that was just an After Hour-ism though..

That one person, when there's a disaster, posts along the lines of:
In other news, thousands of African children died today / America bombed civilians / People would care more if those victims were white / There'd be more people talking about this if they weren't black

All that does is show your smugness and nearly every one of you never start a thread about the very things you complain about that never gets coverage.

Also, if you have a Top Gear thread in AH then someone, somewhere gets a sudden urge to post that Stewart Lee clip because they can't verbalise why they don't like it themselves.

I did wonder about that, but an awful lot of the people posting would JUST put "FYP" with no quote or "fixing".

Maybe it was Fancied Yesteryear's Pantaloons! :D
