Carbon Monoxide Alarm Faulty?

We have a fire alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm on the landing. One of them went off earlier but only for a couple of seconds. I'm pretty sure it was the carbon monoxide one because it sounded slightly different to when the grill sets off the fire alarm! Would this have been caused by a fault? How can I check to make sure it's working correctly?

Use the test button on it to see if it's working ok. Is it still within it's working life span. They differ, but about 5-7 years is usual.
If you have more than one try swapping them around.

Were you using any heat creating appliance at the time?

check for any lights on the face of the monitor. It might have a battery light indicator or fault light indicator. If in doubt best to change the batteries.

Thanks guys. I tried the test button and it worked fine. There is a little light with fault wrote beside it and it's not lit up so I presume that's good. It says on the base that it has a 7 year life span but we never filled in the installation date in the box. It's just under 6 years since the manufacture date so we're fine there for now. I'm going to replace the battery tomorrow just to be safe.
