RTE and Ad Blocking

Seems RTE won't allow you to use the player or live radio feed if you block ads on your PC. Get a message saying to whitelist the website to use the player. How do they think they can force me to allow ads? - not a chance. I don't use AdBlock - I use the MVPS hosts file which blocks ad and malware so there's no way of whitelisting any site. Newstalk and TodayFM have no problem with me blocking ads and they're actually commercial stations.

Off to Liveradio.ie instead so if I do want to listen to RTE.

Anyone come across any other station (or any other website) that tries to force you to whitelist their site?

I know there are other options. My question is why do RTE prevent you from using the Player if you block ads? Makes no sense to me. I use TuneIn on the phone anyway - with AdBlock enabled. On the PC I use the MVPS hosts file. So RTE are basically forcing me to use another site to listen to ads on their radio shows because I block ads on their website which I would ignore anyway.

If everyone blocked the ads, advertisers would stop advertising?

Yet commercial stations don't block them for their live streams. It doesn't block ads from playing on the radio - just ads and malware on sites.
