Was listening to Drivetime and heard about two lads swimming around Ireland.

Seems they are 'Professional Adventurers'.According to one of their parents.

Got me thinking what is Professional Adventurer?

These lads didn't seem to have a charity or otherwise and didn't really give a reason for this 'adventure' so what is the deal here?

Appreciate any feedback as I think these lads are a mystery to me.

Yeah..... If you're "something" according to your parents, you're probably very far from being that thing.

They're not professional unless they're getting paid to do what they're doing. But then yeah I expect they're probably getting other people to pay them to do it, in the name of charity or whatever.

That's what puzzled me Gonger, there was no charity mentioned and yet they got a fair bit of airtime on RTE.

It's a puzzling one, love to know who is funding the adventure and what is the purpose?

Ranulph Fiennes basically. Get some corporate(s) to pay for your excursion to some god forsaken place, they get publicity. Then come home and write a book about it. Repeat.

Sponsored by Costcutters, they will be raising funds for RNLI Lifeboats and Gorta Self Help Africa, and will have support teams on land and water to help with their journey.

I think when you get paid for it you become a professional.

    Like a Taxi Driver

    "Dear Sir/Madam,
I believe I am the perfect candidate for climbing you. I know many have climbed you before but I feel I can bring a new vision to the climbing-you industry. I can bring twenty barely paid sherpas who will risk life and limb for their meager salary, and for my glory and soon to be published book. I have previous experience in climbing things (see attached) and I graduated top of my class at Climbing College in beating sherpas for putting the water in before the milk in our tea.

I'm looking forward to your response.

    Kind regards,
    Harold Persemon-Felds III"

I used to do some work with National Geographic in the US and they had adventurers on the payroll.

Basically guys and girls who travel the farthest corners of the globe finding interesting stuff and taking pics.

Cool gig if you can get it.

Your CV is very attractive, however we have noted you have omitted to include what we consider to be 'core qualifications'.

    Hard neck

    Connections in Montrose

    Failure at everything else.

If you can demonstrate you have these qualifications ,we will be pleased to offer you a position subject to a group discussion test on June 25th in Hamman Bldngs.

(Dont bother showing unless you can bull**** for Ireland).

Would this be the same type as saying he was an up and coming sports person ?
