Cat going through spraying motions

Whenever I bring Jesse back home for a weekend she 'pretend' sprays against vertical objects. She goes through all the motions, tail quivering and feet paddling while pointed at a vertical surface but nothing comes out. It only happens the odd time I have to bring her with me to my homeplace, so I presume it's to do with stress and all the different smells from the dog or left over from bunty.

Anyone got an explanation as to why she's unable to spray? She's a nearly 2 year old spayed female, spayed as a kitten and has never learnt to spray thankfully. Hoping she never does figure it out

One of my neutered males does this, especially when he wants pets. He'll push himself up against the nearest object, tail quivers like mad and he arches his back.

She's marking it as her territory to tell any cats in the area that basically, she owns the place. :D 2 of our neutered male cats still spray if there's any real friction or if they're anxious about something. I think that must be where the expression 'a pissing contest' comes from. :)

Two of our cats do this - one neutered male and one neutered female. The female is an indoor cat and never actually sprays, just uses the litter tray but the male is an outdoor cat, so I see him spray peeing outside, but he only does this "mimick" spray indoors.

I honestly have no idea why they do it, I'm just thankful neither of them actually pees when they do it indoors...

My neutered male does this, arched back and tail quivering, he never actually sprays though. He does it mostly when he's really excited, running around the house, pausing to quiver at stuff

I assume even without urine spraying, there are 'scents' coming out of their glands when they do this. Pheromones and the like. Smells another cat would pick up even if its not urine. Its a similar behaviour to rubbing their head and faces on objects, they are leaving their scent on your face with that head bump! :pac:
