Blazed through the end of the game today.
Sided with the Railroad. Tinker Tom gave me a Railgun which made the last few sections a lot of fun particularly taking down the Brotherhood. Managed to pin Scribe Haylen and Lance Captain Kells' head to the wall. I like the Brotherhood normally but they bugged me in this game, especially Elder Maxsen. Gave him a nice big dose of railgun but sadly couldnt pin his decapitated head to the wall.:( Taking down the Institute felt a bit underwhelming even with the massive explosion in the end.

Also starting over. Things to remember:

[*]Save Scum companion rep -- Example, Codsworth & Danse 'love' when you mod weapons and armour. Mod item, QSave, QLoad, Mod item - rinse & repeat for easy rep. Not sure if this makes it quicker, but if you don't QLoad, you won't get another rep popup (save to assume it has an internal cooldown when saves aren't used). Can do the same for Lockpicking/Hacking etc in those moments where you have tonnes of locked stuff bunched together.

I've been wondering about this one. Picking locks with Cait occasionally didn't trigger the message. I thought it might be a cooldown, but other time it seemed like she'd wandered away and wasn't 'looking'.

Doesn't matter what they're physically doing or where they're looking so you don't need to worry about that, but all things point to possible internal cooldown unless scummed with a save/hard refresh of some kind.
Sorry, by 'looking' I meant hovering within a certain range, but I thought it was quite small. Looks like a cooldown so!
If someone can find that console command which you use to view a specific companions rep (yes, there is one, might try it later after work), you could very easily check if this all works. Note that if you, like me, have Santuary contain ALL available companions, they will all comment (in unison, which is hilarious) when you enter a workbench no matter how far away you are.
Think it's "getav CA_affinity", it's somewhere earlier in th thread. Click on the target first after opening the console.

On a different note, level 10 since new playthrough - character looks lovely and has already discovered places I missed on previous playthroughs. Funny how one of my first assumptions of F4 when I first started was 'the map is small' (having Witcher 3 in memory) but it really, really isn't.

Well it's physically smaller (going by walking time estimates) but it's much more densely packed than previous games (approx. 315 marked locations in FO4 vs. 187 in NV and 161 in FO3 - base game comparisons only).

Need help. Pissed off that my Fast Travel Mat has fallen into some concrete making it unreachable. Pulling my hair out trying basic console commands like disable, markfordelete (vs ID 00000000 which one site tells me is the mat ID, but not sure if true).

I need it deleted so I can place one properly, otherwise I will never be able to move my fast travel location at Sanctuary. My little warehouse is on the opposite end of the place, so I can't just leave it unless I fancy a long walk anytime I return.

Can you reach the original mat by turning the clipping off?

Also on my first attempt at a house in Sanctuary (the first empty base past the bridge) I built a fast travel mat but it turned out to be a pain walking to the workshop all the time. I scrapped the house and mat and built a new house on the base beside the workshop. When I fast travelled the fast travel point was where I had placed the first mat at the entrance, even though I had since scrapped that mat. When I added a fast travel mat at the new house it fixed the problem. So I'm thinking, maybe if you place a second mat it might override the first one?

you can just sit at a bench all day getting lots of rep through tinkering, QSaving, QLoading

Why on earth would you bother doing this?

Like, the mechanics were obviously not designed to be used that way, so if you really want to manipulate your way into things happening for the sake of making them happen why not just use console and save yourself an absurd waste of time saving and reloading?

You don't actually need the Workshop, though. You can get into the build interface by holding V and you can dump junk into the pool from any bench.

you can move entire buildings that are clipped by holding down E until it lifts it

basically anything that's clipped will be lifted - might be helpful, oh and tab to cancel and it will go back to it's original position - ye know, just incase ye wanna check under the couch for that 50p

Do you need to assign settlers to water purifiers? I have one in Starlight and an industrial in Sanctuary but never have any purified water in the workshop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

no just build as many as you need for water punmps or purifiers if you can.

you can rep up with hancock by doing chems or booze too

I've only had Preston, Nick, Hancock and Piper so far. Hancocks probably my favourite followed by Nick and Piper who are both likeable. Preston is terrible though and didnt find him too useful in combat either. Doing Minuteman quests helped me get his perk quick though.

Didn't realise that all the characters that are romance-able, are romance-able by male or females, and you can romance as many as you like per playthrough. Nice touch.

I've now been playing for 1 day, 4 hours. (Game time) I've just discovered Diamond city.

Loving this game. Especially the city ruins, felt that was missing from New Vegas, reminds me of DC

Is...is....is that a pipe weapon ? ....they're so bad. The ammo is just to be used as money :P
Also...the 'reflex sight' ....I find it awful. So many better weapons even very early into the game.

I looted a pipe revolver with explosive rounds early in my game that was my go to weapon for a good few hours. Used to tear apart raiders and ghouls. My most fun to use weapon till i got the railgun.

Hunting rifle, few enhancements being my main weapon early one. Keeps me going for a good while, until I get a combat rifle. Or an Instigating hunting rifle. That chews bad guys up, particularly with Ninja and Rifleman perks.

Revolvers are horrible weapons due to their slow fire rate and small capacity. Reflex sights are awesome and they're my go-to for most weapons other than sniping. Pipe .38 ammo is fine, especially if you use a full auto weapon and piss it away on ghouls and other trash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,769 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

I modified a combat rifle to .308 and have it semi-auto, almost no recoil and a short standard scope, oh and silenced too.. extremely powerful short/mid-range sniper rifle :)

Turned the hunting rifle into a .50 cal with a long-range recon scope - those scopes are great but they take up so much space on screen i decided to limit it to just the .50 rifle solely for extreme range kills and marking targets before i enter an area (when that's [possible)

I also bought a submachine gun called "Spray n Pray" fires explosive rounds and does aoe damage :D managed to kill myself with it a few times killing ghouls in vats :D

I cant find anything to fire all my 50 cal ammo which is by far my biggest stockpile, dont like modding weapons to fire different ammo types, it feels wrong somehow.

One of the first weapons I got off a legendary was a bleeding pipe pistol. Given the way bleeding stacks, even at level 30 it's still good for finishing off enemies.

Slightly disappointed with my irradiated shotgun that gives an extra 50 radiation damage. Though it's possible everything that's tried to kill me lately is immune to radiation damage.

A tough legendary weapon to go up against is a staggering minigun. I have good armour so a minigun isn't that damaging to me but this thing still ripped me apart. The stagger processes so much that I thought there was something wrong with my game when I got hit with it because my character would stop moving in the direction I wanted and would start moving weird. It was only once I killed him and seen the effect on the gun I figured out what was happening.

I found a tommygun with +50 radiation damage, which given that it is fully automatic should have been an absolute monster, and it seemed to do almost nothing against normal raiders. When I've been hit by gamma guns it doesn't actually do damage damage, it just massively boosts your radiation, so it doesn't act the way normal damage does.

Anyway I threw it out because it was useless.

I just got my hands on a hunting rifle that does extra plasma damage, so I've upgraded it into a .50 cal sniper monster and it's great fun.
