    I'm 17 year's old male.
    I'm 5,8 feet and around 145lbs
I am a bit ripped like you can see my muscles and i'm not fat or skinny.

So i would like to ask if whey protein would be good for me and if i use whey will it make me fat and can i use whey protein since i'm 7 year's old?

I workout 4 to 5 days a week depends on my plan.

Whey protein won't be bad for you. Whey is just a by-product in the manufacture of cheese.

And no, it won't make you fat unless your daily calorie intake is greater than the calories burned.

It's just food really. Basically its dried milk protein.
So you've probably been consuming whey your whole life.

But, at 145lbs you are pretty small, no reason that you can't hit your target with food instead of supplements.
I'm assuming your goal is to bulk up. And being lean (ripped, see your abs) doesn't mean you are not skinny too. I can't imagine being 145 and not skinny.

He's saying you've probably consumed the equivalent of whey protein shakes your whole life.

That liquid on top of the yoghurt when you peel back the lid contains whey, for example.

Ultimately, you don't need shakes. You need to eat more and train hard. The shakes just bump up your protein intake if you're not getting enough from food and they're perfectly safe.

I never mentioned shakes in my post.

I was saying that you've probably had milk your whole life.

At his height his BMI is dead centre of the healthy range. Great idea to bulk up a bit but he's not underweight.

I never said he was underweight ???
Skinny are underweight aren't the same. BMI is fairly limited for individuals though, regardless I wasn't suggesting he needs to bulk up because 145 is underweight, I was saying it because he asked specifically for advice for taking protein.

I'm struggling to see how but ok, whatever. You can understand why someone might think you meant underweight. BMI is perfectly useful for pretty much anyone that isn't a body builder or an extreme case of skinny-fat.

Underweight describes somebody with a dangerously low body weight. It's not healthy.
Skinny is just an general attribute, it's not specifically negative or unhealthy. Not every skinny person is underweight.
The OP would need to be 121lbs before he hits underweight BMI. But he'd be skinny long before that

For example, this athlete has a BMI if 20.2, so it's in the healthy range - but he is also what must people would call skinny. Even champion marathoners like Mutai are (just) within the "healthy range".

I wasn't for a second suggesting the OP is a dangerous weight.

It's usable as a very rough guide but thats about it. Two people with the same BMI could easily have very make up.

Being in the healthy range in no way means a person has a healthy body comp. The above examples are were athletes high level athletes - and are borderline. How healthy do you think somebody at that BMI would be if they sat at a computer all day, got no exercise and ate crap.
At the other end, somebody with no muscle mass at all, but a BMI if 24.5 is probably not very healthy.

As a side note, it is becoming apparent that extreme distance running is actually not very good for your health at all.

Which makes a lot of sense to me, given how the gut reaction to such people's appearance is usually that they look scrawny and unhealthy.

Appropriately sized portions of meat protein and eggs might well help you bulk up, with or without the whey.

Pretty much. But you probably don't get enough with your current diet

    Yep.

This is just an example but a tun of tuna has as much protein, if not more, than a shake.

You don't need to get into tracking what you eat but you should use MyFitnessPal to get an idea what is in what you eat on an average day and you can take it from there.

Lol, what do some people actually think protein shakes, and even just protein itself, are? So frustrating still having people not understand it's simply a supplement to one's diet like any other.

Yeah, because there definitely aren't stickies to help people begin learning the basics of nutrition to prevent people who've done absolutely no research posting threads like this and causing the same helpful posters having to explain the same simple information over and over.
