Looking at a cyclocross, mainly for commuting but eventually to do that stupidly high mountain in Hawaii :D

The Cannondale seems like a pretty good choice for me, and I can get it for about $2200 NZD at the moment compared to the regular $3k+ on here

I can't get a Canyon in NZ otherwise I would to match the current fleet so this is looking like a good option instead.

Any advice on the linked spec that makes it not as ideal as first look?

I don't know why you'd choose a heavy, slow alu CX bike when for less money from the same shop you could get this:

Oh wait, Mauna Kea has a 7km gravel section....

Could you not just hire a bike for the day?

are you saying I don't actually need another bike? I thought that wasn't allowed:confused:

It'll be used a lot tbh, I don't want to continue to use the road bike to commute on and it gives way more options for around town on the unpaved paths too.

    I've a Caadx for about 18 months.
It is heavy compared to a decent road bike but it is not sluggish by any standard. According to Garmin, I'm averaging the same on it as I am on my road bike. I have Crosslight wheels and Ultegra.

Responds instantly to efforts and climbs well enough. Where it really shines is on long days. Forget about aluminium being harsh, I've 25c's on it now and its probably the most comfortable bike I've owned. It descends very well. Those Sammy Slick tyres that come with it are a mixed blessing. They are quick enough on the road but puncture easily after a little wear and then wear out really quickly. Geometry is on the "racey" side compared to Synapse or Felt Z series or any of the main contenders sold as sportive bikes.. It is one of the few bike purchases I have ever made that I would have happily paid a fair bit more.
