Hand held vacuum

This might sound silly but I need a hand held vacuum cleaner that can clean up pet hairs. My current vacuum is ok for other tasks but the hairs are embedded in the stairs carpet and won't budge. Any ideas?

If they're embedded, no vacuum is going to shift them, you're going to need a brush to sweep them out.
A quick google produces a list of possible solutions.
