Cost of erecting sheep wire

Does anyone out there have any idea of the cost of getting sheep wire erected by a fencing contractor? Am just looking for a rough indication. Am currently renting 100 acres to a sheep farmer and was considering erecting some internal fences as they are being destroyed by the sheep as they simply wander through any gap they see. Some of you will probably ask why bother if it is rented but the internal fences will be non existent if I don't do something with them. Would have somewhere in the region of 4000m to fence.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am not a farmer, am just the owner renting it out so I won't qualify for any grants.

4000m supplied and erected could cost anywhere from 20k to 30k depending on whats involved ;gates, turns, cleaning back existing hedge etc etc.

Also, on an internal hedge, fencing on one side only will still allow sheep access to the hedge.

I have included for fencing both sides of internal hedges and there will be no additional work involved such as removing overgrown hedges etc as this will be carried out prior to any Contractor arriving on site.

Why not leave the hedges instead of removing them?

I've a neighbour here who was a very tasty farmer, but he had a big family and eventually gave in, he set the land and went to work at the building to keep bread on the table.
He said to me one day that once you rent out your land, you have to turn a blind eye to what goes on in your land.....some tenants will wreck the place no matter what you do

I am not removing the hedges, merely trimming them prior to placing sheep wire. I agree regarding comment about tenants wrecking the property but I am not really interested in an income from the land in question, more a case of keeping it in reasonable condition for the time being.

I'd say maybe keep your money until the lease is up and you might think of hobby farming yourself and invest it then to bring back to the condition you want it! Because most probably the work you do now will be ruined over time and neglect! Fencing needs to be constantly maintained to keep it up to scratch

Or ask the tenant to use a bit of electric fencing so the hedges aren't damaged if he would . 20k is alot to fork out but I suppose if its well done it should last many years too

Where in the country are you? I contract fence and I could give you a price if you're in the southeast. ..at 4000 metres it would be negotiable. .also I could give you some alternative ideas at least. ..
Did you think of asking the farmer if he would be interested in sharing some of the cost. ..If he is paying small money for the land he probably wouldn't be interested but if the land is well fended it is worth more to rent out and it could give you the option of renting to more than one farmer. The job of maintaining the fencing is upto you unless it is part of the rental agreement that he maintains it to a standard. .
One bit of advice I will give you is do not scrimp on the materials, especially the stakes...pay a bit extra for your stakes and it would mean the difference between a five year fence and 25 year fence. ..and after you fence it put it in your rental agreement that the farmer maintains it..

If it's for internal fences would 2 or 3 strands of electric fence do the job ?

Less maintenance required with the sheep wire versus the electric fence.
