Out of date Kopi Luwak Coffee - safe?

    Guys,
I was given a sealed bag of ground Kopi Luwak Coffee, by my wife's boss.

It was stored in a dark press unopened since he got it.

I've just taken it out to make some (salivating at the thoughts of it) when I noticed a best before date of 10th January 2015.

Is it beyond useable at this point? I was only given it last week so it's not like I let it expire. I'd love to have it but don't think poisoning myself is worth the risk.

Price sticker on the bag is $327 (+ taxes). So you understand my quandary.

    Go for it.

Chances are that you've just passed a best before date (which is fairly arbitrary - and it's ground already so....)

Remember this is a coffee that has already been through so much - :p - that a couple of extra weeks or months maturation is just going to reduce the flavour a wincy bit.

It's unlikely to harm you, but mightn't taste as good as it would have on 9th January. By a small amount.

    Like that bit!

Once opened, the coffee will probably lose condition faster, so don't keep it around for long.

Ok, decided to go for it. Not really sure if I've hyped myself up to this, but it seems to me that this is exactly what coffee should taste like.

There's a very full flavour. Almost sweet. The after taste is fantastic and the feeling in the mouth is like the very best example of coffee I could imagine (or maybe I've just been making/buying crap coffee).

    Glad I didn't toss it !
