Recommendations for a budget of €17500

Hey lads,

So I've decided it's time for an upgrade from my 01 Astra.

I've looked around all the usual car selling sites, and only seen a couple of cars which I'm interested in.

Due to my age (under 25) I'm still a boy racer, and therefore insurance has to play a part in the choice.

The car I'm which is top of my list currently in the Skoda Octavia vRS TDI 2011. Anyone have any opinions on this? What should I ask for when looking at the car? Does it have a timing belt or chain?

Any other cars which may be suitable for me? Petrol or diesel. Prefer a saloon but would consider a hatchback.

There are a selection of 2011 Audi A4 diesels on Done Deal that are through SIMI dealers.

Being a SIMI dealer means sweet feck all. OP, the Octavia is a hatchback, not a saloon btw.

Yeah I know the Octavia is a hatchback, but it has the shape of a saloon.

The boxer td engine is supposed to be a peach....dashboard may not be as high quality as some other contenders though.

The first two cars have quite a high mileage on them for their age and none of them are no more than five years old. Mount Merrion cars have a 2010 Volkswagen Passat CC 2 litre diesel with just under 60000 miles on the clock for 17900. You might be able to get it down to 17500

Lower spec and a year older, I'd be wanting for a good bit less than €17500.

A 5 year old cc diesel, 12,000 miles per year? come on. nobody buys a cc for Sunday driving. taking the cost into account, the original purchaser would have been better off buying a petrol. Id question it.
