Renault traffic starting problem

Hi I have a Renault traffic 2.5 diesel 07, it won't start first thing in the morning when cold , it will tick over for a split second then cut out.
After 6 or 7 tries it will fire up and run no problem and drive perfect with loads of power, anyone have any idea what could be the problem.

    Thanks

Filter, air leak in the lines to the pump.

Had a good look today at the lines and filter housing is there any way to find exactly where the leak is or can it be pressure tested in a garage

Had a similar problem with my 1.9 it was one heater plug that was not working!

I was thinking a glow plug, maybe someone with specific expertise could offer assistance, unless its a badly located item hidden behind other items, seems like I could be an easy fix

Do these have a 'bulb' for priming the pump after changing the fuel filter .
If it has you could try 'priming' it before starting first thing in the morning - see if it makes a difference.
Does it start instantly and then cut out or turn over for a bit and then start and cut out ?
Small air leaks can be difficult to pinpoint unfortunately

Yes it has a bulb and I've tried priming it before starting and it doesn't seem to help.
It starts straight away but only ticks over for a second then cuts out, it could do this up to 10 times before it stays running, the longer it's left sitting the longer it takes to start.
Once it's started it drives perfect and ticks over very smoothly.

had a similar problem with a different make ,

it was the engine temperature sensor for the glow plugs that was faulty

not saying it's that in your case but perhaps worth bearing in mind if all else fails

If it starts straight away glow plugs are probably OK.
Did this problem begin suddenly or gradually develop ?
Did it coincide with a filter change or some other work for example ?
Has filter been long there ?
Is there a section of clear plastic where you can see the fuel on its way to the engine - any sign of air bubbles with engine running ?
The fact that it takes longer to start the longer its left would tend to point to an air leak or fuel being allowed to return to tank.
Do you know if you have an electric pump - I know that most which have the bulb don't have an electric pump , but apparently some have both .
If you have an electric pump you should hear it running when you switch on ignition .
The bulb itself can be a cause of an air leak - after some time it can develop hairline cracks.
Does it make any difference if van is parked facing uphill or downhill ?

Only bought the van so don't know how long it's like this, does anyone know any good diesel mechanics around the kilcock area that I could bring it to.

    Thanks

Okay I brought the van to 2 garages and both computers showed the maf sensor, I didn't think this would stop the van from starting, anyway going to get one today and see what happens fingers crossed.

I know the MAF can cause problems on the 1.9 dci - as you say I didn't think it would cause the problem you have.
However , if 2 scans indicated this ????
Other problem I came across with Renault vans was that some scanners don't seem to 'communicate' very well with them . You may need a dedicated scanner to get meaningful info.

Just got the maf today put it in and van is perfect, 285 Euro but at least it's starting properly now
