What's the beat way to send a small package with a value of €160 to the USA ?

An post registered small packet -

5-7 days delivery, trackable and will be cheapest by far.

    Assuming it's less than 2kg

I looked on the AnPost site but I could only see registered post within Ireland.

Will it incur any import duty or tax in the US?

I just noticed that they won't insure jewellery

Thanks but unfortunately they only offer €35 compensation & they won't cover jewellery. I am amazed that they don't offer extra cover.

It's pretty pointless as, if you are using registered, the item is likely to be worth more that €35.

I now recall a guy on Liveline complaining about the same thing.

Does anyone know of another option ?

An post send millions and millions of items abroad every year. A miniscule number get lost. Once its packaged properly and the address clearly written so that address scanners can read it, you will have no problem. - I sed copious amounts of product abroad with an post and still have yet to have one single item go missing or even break.

    Basically you have 2 choices

Take the small risk and get it delivered for €16 - €22

or get DHL / FEDEX to delivery for a cost of €70-€100 - DHL have collection points in ReCharge cartridge locations.

As for the liveline thing - you will ALWAYS have the odd issue with any company that deals in hundreds of millions of items a year - key in DHL problems, UPS probelms, Fedex problems - in fact key in any subject with the word "problems" and you will find someone somewhere that will have an issue.

Best to look at the bigger picture - sometimes you have to take calculated risks.

If AnPost have such a faultless record then why not offer better compensation?

Ah jaysus - try reading the post.

They do offer better compensation, but not on the low cost regular registered mail service. - Similar with most postal systems.

OP could look at an post EMS service which offers insurance of €350.

The Op has a choice - weigh up the pros and cons and decide what is best. Life has some risk!
