How does optical benefit work?

I have confirmed that I have enough PRSI contributions but I'm not sure what the next step is. Can I just find an optician and make an appointment or is there a specific list of places I have to go for the exam? I see that SpecSavers etc offer them but I'm always worried that places like that will just try to sell me expensive frames!

Go into your optician of choice and ask them.

Any optician will give you a free eye test under the optical benefit scheme. The frames you choose is up to you to choose and pay for. I have never felt pressured to buy expensive frames, although they do all push the extras like non reflective lenses etc.
