My friends have avensis 1.8 petrol with auto box, and with no reason left side, pasanger side, driveshaft broke on half.

Question is, would driveshaft from 1.6 petrol, manual box would fit, if i swap over inner and outer cv joints.

    Thanks

    any ?

looking for toyota t25 short driveshaft, (even might would consider new one ) , as I found out, thats common problem for them, and second hand would fail few miles down the road, insurance recovery man said he got to bring to garages same 10 cars last week with same issue.

I took old one out, waiting to get another go in, just need to find out , would 1.6 manual avensis driveshaft would be same. assume cv joint shall be same, and size of joint in cup (which goes in to gearbox) should be same... Just need to know for sure, as wont pay someone for driveshaft, which possibly not fit.

Very specialized question! Maybe try a toyota forum too.

I was hoping, might somebody was going through such problem, and got it fixed within reasonably expenses.

Haven't came across this problem in an auto Avensis yet, mainly Corolla verso/ Avensis and fitted new parts every time.

That happen in NCT center, while doing brake test. Was offered do complain , but after i looked on driveshaft, it was half rusty, so decided not do complain, as it may happen in any time soon due condition of driveshaft. However, before NCT, i was doing proper "italian tuning drive style " , to break a glaze off brake pads, also clean emission system, but the driveshaft broke at the end of brake system test.

Different part numbers from Toyota for 1.6 vs 1.8 driveshafts.
    Maybe slightly different in lengths?
You can buy spurious ones for quite small money now.

Have a look at J&R driveshafts:
    http://www.jandrcvjoints.co.uk/toyota-avensis-1-8-petrol-driveshaft-near-side-brand-new-03-08/?page_context=search&faceted_search=0

54.99 GBP. They have an eBay shop too, might be cheaper there.

The driveshafts are brand new. I was really impressed with the quality.

I have used them a good few times now, I agree the stuff is good, branded interpart. One word of warning, the grease they supply is ****e, better buy a tub of proper CV grease and use that instead.
I stripped one after 6mths and the grease had hardened and gone black.

Not sure about the grease. I bought a whole driveshaft with the joints so the grease was already inside.

    Haven't had issues :)

I've had joints and driveshafts from J&R they are very reasonable, worth checking the grease situation though IMO, I used an old silicone tube that I cleaned out and filled with CV grease, put the nozzle on and undo one of the CV bands and squirt away until you think there is plenty in there.
They don't sound bad but the grease had hardened and It wouldn't have been long before it would damage the CV from lack of lubrication.
Just my experience with them, YMMV.

Got it sorted, god brand new whole driveshaft, got off the guy from dondeal, for 150 delivered to door. Ordered in tuesday morning, paid with card over the phone, received wednesday evening, installed myself and went through nct same day. Happy days. I might would save something 30-40 quid if orderd from ebay, but thats girlfriends car, need urgently sorted, as have to go to work in other part Dublin, drop kid to childminder, shopping... etc.. I think it was worth it, quick and guaranteed right part (1.8 with auto box). Thanks to everyone for their advise.
