A homegrown version would be David Pearse.Instantly recognisable face from bit parts in stuff down the years,only know his name from that RTE drama series about pub quizzes.

Jim Carter,been seeing this guy in stuff for years without knowing his name till recently,I think I used to mix him up with Tom Wilkinson at one point.Has become better know recently through Downton Abbey which I have to admit never seeing.
