2011 Hyundai ix35, DPF or not

    Hi,

    I have a 2011 Hyundai ix35, 1.7 CRDI 2WD 115HP, manual.

    Im wondering what oil I should use in it, when I go to the castrol website and oil selector and enter Hyundai ix35, it returns 2 results for the 1.7 Engine.

    Hyundai ix35 - ix35 1.7 CRDi 2WD DPF (2010 - )
    Hyundai ix35 - ix35 1.7 CRDi 2WD (2010 - )

    Looks like one with DPF and the other without a DPF

    How can I tell if my car has a DPF or not ?

    It's the same oil and same amount for both so no issue.

    oh ok right, d'oh by me.

    Out of interest, any way to tell if my car has a DPF anyway ?

    I know some cars have a DPF light in the dashboard to indicate issues with it, when you turn the key on the car first turn and all lights come on it would be present. I am not 100% if the light is a feature on all cars that have the DPF or not though.

    Also, I know some oils have very specific things like for fords, BMW's (bmw ll04 etc) etc.

    castrol website simply recommends: 0w-30


    do I just buy 0w-30, or do I need to be even more specific ?

    You HAVE a dpf and the oil type is 0w30 but must be c3 spec as this is dpf friendly (low sulphur)

    How do you know for sure i have one though?

    Will c3 be written on the box ?

    All IX35 diesels sold in this country have a DPF to the best of my knowledge.

    The spec should be printed on the packaging.

    By my reckoning you should use a 5w30 C3 spec oil.

    There's not a huge difference between 0w and 5w30 but Autodata says that 5w30 is the preferred oil for them so that's what we use.

    The C3 spec is the most important part.

    No sorry, fuel filter due to be changed at 40k, many blocking before 25/30k

    I actually have 5w 30 oil already and it says "ACEA C3" on it.

    is this the same as simple C3 or does the ACEA at start change things ?

    That's the one. ACEA only stands for European Automobile Manufacturers Association - translated from French I think. Thus ACEA A1 or C3 as oil types.
