Hip-flask drink for groomsman who's off drink

    Hi all,
Getting married in a few days time, and I got personalised hip-flasks for my groomsmen. But one of the guys has recently said they won't be drinking on the day or for the next few months due to medical reasons.

What should I do with the flask? Should I give it to him empty and in the case, or fill it with a soft drink?

a nice leomanade (something like San Pellegrino Limonata)would do the trick, just check with him to make sure too much sugar etc won't bother him

Do they need to be filled at all? My husband has a rake of them from various weddings and I don't think a drink was put into any of them.

This is lovely drink, I like to call it Pam pa do for some reason...
I would say maybe a cordial as would fizzy just not go flat! Suss him out sure and see what kind of drinks he like and take it from there

Why on earth would you fill a hip flask to give as a present? The whole point is that the owner of flask fills it themselves ...

Its not really an appropriate present for someone who is off drink either.

But if you're giving it to the person on the morning of the wedding, they'll prob be unable to go and get drink to fill it at the time. Or it could look slightly mean not to fill up the flask.

I've gone for the San Pellegrino Limonata after the suggestions. It's only just to have something in it, and if he hates it he can easily throw it out as it's cheap enough. Cheers all.

They're being given a personalised gift, there's nothing mean about it.

As a general rule, giving any guy a hip flask of alcohol in the morning is a bad idea.

why would it be a bad idea! I would think maybe if they were ten but I take they are a little older than that

Ummm ... It's a bad idea for obvious reasons... Handing over a hip flask pre-filled with spirits first thing in the morning is a disaster waiting to happen.

I think they would be old or wise enough to know not to neck the entire thing...

Could you just get him something else that's personalised ?

It's not that I'm bring judgemental but you do need to look out for your mates! If he's off the drink for medical reasons maybe get him something else?

Maybe buy him a watch and get it engraved or something like that instead ?

At the very least don't make a big deal out of filling and drinking the hip flasks just give them as presents and let the lads figure out whether to use them or not. They can be a good ornament to stick on a shelf somewhere as a bit of a momento of the wedding.

I've never heard of getting a filled hip flask as a gift before. That's just odd!
