The Saturday Night Show's over -
There'll be no more Brendan, and his injured tendon
The Saturday Night Show's over -
Best show on the station is lost to the Nation.

Bonnie Tyler, Crystal Swing, Brendan's arm was in a sling
Dave McSavage, Panti Bliss, Barrymore may have been pissed
Gerald Kean and whatshername, Every year always the same
Carrie Fisher , Louis Spence, Michael Buble and the rest

Dana International, Chefs and the Bloom Festival
Nigel Owens, Ruby Walsh, Hank from Breaking Bad.
Pussy Riot, Eamonn Holmes, Woman who lost 13 stone
Canteen guests from RTE, Cork winners on the phone

Twink and Linda had a fight, Idris Elba, Pussy Riot,
Starsky off Starsky and Hutch, Dermot Bannon on too much,
Lots of people plugging books, one night all the curtains stuck
Noel Gallagher came on and mimed
Now it's over, no more time

Show is over, nearly done. On the way we had some fun
Thanks to all who joined in and posted on the thread.
Posters from the past and now, lots of laughs not many rows
Darcy, Mir and DLB, none as good as BOC
Time is up, the end is Nigh. SNS gone to the sky
Farewell and thanks, it's time to fly
    Kittehs Puppehs say goodbye!

Apologies to Billy Joel for that. Yes, this is the end, my friends.
After 5 and a half series it's time for the apocalypse SNS
    Won't see another one.
Hopefully Brendan has a few treats in store to give the show a decent send off.

Show begins Saturday at 9.40pm. Guest information to follow.

    #BrendanForever
    #RayDarcyNever

    Update: (Thanks Atlantic Dawn)

Alex James, the Cheese Making Bass player from Blur

John Lyons TD and his Mother, probably something to do with last week's referendum.

    Oliver Callan

    Dylan McGrath (Chef)

Music from The Willis Clan and Soak. Also the winner of the John Murray Show / Saturday Night Show emerging talent competition, Third Smoke.

Mr Toons does his balloon act

Wow. What a Line Up. They really made a big effort for the final show.

    Apologies to Terry Jacks here...

Goodbye to you, our trusted friend,
We've known you since the start of twenty-ten.
You gave us lots of laughs and jests,
    Caught and beat the LLS,
Even when you had bad guests.

Goodbye, our friend, it's hard to die,
When all the stars are shining in the sky.
Now that the summer's in the air,
    D'Arcy's almost everywhere -
When we see him you'll be there.

We had joy, we had fun,
We had seasons in the sun,
But the laughs that we had
Were just seasons out of time.
We had joy, we had fun,
We had seasons in the sun,
But the laughs that we had
Were just seasons out of time.

Surely Brendan has to send the show off with a song of his own - even if it's just "My Way".

I like it, I like it a lot GHG :) Splendid work

Yes, I always enjoyed Brendan's songs. It's a same he hasn't done them in a while.

This might be another one for him to sing on Saturday :pac:

Edit: That's The Lemonheads, not The Letterheads

That's an underwhelming guest list. Ah well, maybe there will be some surprises.

I didn't realise that the SNS was originally conceived as a two hander with Brendan O'Connor and Lucy Kennedy  This was in The Herald in November 2009
Reports that new mum Lucy Kennedy will be the face of RTE on Saturday nights have been trashed by the broadcaster.

It was claimed that the former sidekick of Podge and Rodge has been chosen to co-present a new chatshow with burly journalist Brendan O'Connor in January.

    http://www.herald.ie/entertainment/around-town/new-mum-lucy-wont-rush-tv-return-27933093.html

That sounds like a terrible idea. I wonder who thought they would work as a duo? Probably the same person who is giving Ray Darcy huge money to wreck Saturday Nights.

Also on tonight are Third Smoke, who won the John Murray Show/SNS emerging talent competition

Aww, I have to miss the Show and the thread tonight. :(
Excellent work there Skid and Harvey!

Anyway, it's been great fun, the Saturday Night Show, and it wouldn't be the same without the thread!
So, cheers, one and all. Enjoy the night!

    Yeah, that's a brilliant line-up all right... ;)

It is on for an hour and 40 minutes, however - so there may well be a surprise or two. :)

Brendan and Lucy would have been more Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox than Richard and Judy, that's for sure. :D;)

(I could have mentioned Simon Delaney and Laura Whitmore - but their pairing was four years down the line. ;))

And let's not forget that the SNS was created as one of two potential replacements for Tubridy Tonight - the other being Tonight with Craig Doyle... :o

Oliver Callan? Again with this guy? Does he know he isn't funny? Has nobody told him?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 142 ✭✭tafkach

I would laugh if RTE called D'Arcy the week before his new show starts and said "Listen, Ray... At our last management meeting we discussed RTE's public service charter and it's been decided that we need to take a break at 10.30pm on Saturday nights (i.e. in the middle of your show) to head across to Nuacht studios for Cínnlínte Na Nuachta..."

Okay I have the first joke for Brendan for tonight's show....

So c'mere to me... As you all know, this is our last show, and Ray D'Arcy will be taking over The Saturday Night Show next season ... Apparently, when told of the news, Enda Kenny turned to Fionnuala and said "I will leave the country if that fekn eejit Ray D'Arcy becomes Saturday Night Show host"

    *takes bow*

Those people won't be raving about Slane when they are staggering around at 3am trying to find their bus.

Worst organised venue I have ever been to.

Can I just say that from the start, I am REALLY REALLY annoyed that they are getting rid of Brendan... He's improved greatly over the last few years and in my opinion he should be given the Late Late and Tubridy should be moved back to Saturday night.... I know I'm like a broken record at this stage....

ehhmm, I mean of course I'm not like a broken record.. Shur how could I be like a broken record and me only having 24 posts, shur that wouldnt be enough time to formulate any entrenched opinions about anything at all, would it .. ;-)

In other news, looks like Panti won't make the SNS tonight :(

This is what the folks at Montrose did when they saw that the SNS had overtaken the LLS in the ratings...

Oh that band that won the John Murray Show band thing are on tonight as well... There was a really good singer song writer guy who made it to the final three... but I think the organisers said to themselves "we want a band with a lively song for the big finish of the Sat Nite Show"... It's the oddest song, it kind of like the first you your ever wrote, where you think that there has to be a drum hit for every bass note...

    Good Evening Friends :)

I'm so sad that this is the last Saturday Night Show ever :( RTE are making a massive mistake, it reminds me of when they canned 'Live At Three', they thought that they'd replace it with something flashier but we all know that never happened. They lost a large audience of happy people and never got them back.

This is a special (sad) occasion so I'm on the Aldi Prosecco tonight.

Last night's drink of choice was Lidl Prosecco but I've gone slightly up market (Aldi) for Brendan's last show.
