    Alright lads,
just wondering how much (roughly) it would/should cost to have a wheel bearing (front passenger side) replaced on a 2002 1.4lt golf ?

    (I know, ****e car etc... )

I'm asking cos a mate reckoned it would be a pricey job because the car has ABS...

    Decent quality bearing €50
    1.5 hours labour €75
    €125 plus 13.5% VAT = €140-ish

Getting a price of €110 plus €75 labour for a front nearside bearing on a 04 audi a4..

One garage looked at it and said the bearing was seized in the hub and I was looking at 4-5 hours labour for the bearing replacement..if the bearing is seized in your opinion would 4-5 hours labour be right george?

You'd only know it ceased into the hub when you go to remove it. Also every bearing will be a tight fit, none fall out. So you would expect it to take some effort to remove. Sounds like they don't want the job.

Any bearings like that you can just take a grinder to them, once you take a bit of the race away it will come out.

Yeah I agree..dont think that particular garage wanted the job, I have it booked in elswhere now and they reckon 1.5 - 2 hours for the job..

Those B6 A4s are a different setup to what you describe. The bearing comes as a complete unit which is bolted into the hub carrier. The hub carrier is made of aluminium so the bearing sometimes gets very badly corroded into the hub carrier. Worst case scenario would be 4-5 hours labour to get it out without damaging anything.
