Gas not really heating water?

    Hi Folks,

We have a gas boiler that's heating the rads fine, but it doesn't really heat the water. For instance we had it on for an hour or more last night and water cold in taps this morning.. have a lagging jacket on the cylinder.. also have an immersion which works fine.. after 30 minutes scalding water.. realise it would be more effective but still i would expect the gas to do a better job.

Anything that might be impeding its performance?

    Cheers,
    Mick

Could be a motorised hot water zone valve not opening properly or the balancing valve on the coil not open far enough.
If you could post a picture of your hot water cylinder and the pipework connecting to it, it may be possible to help you better.

    Here's a picture

My dad reckons it could be failing circulation pump or possible leaky worm in the cylinder?

He also thinks the heat would need to be on a good couple of hours to have hot water?

Does it heat the water when the heating is on?.

Is the balance valve opened at least a full turn?

I can't see it in the pic., if there is a valve on the bottom pipe going into the right hand side of the cylinder, open it (anticlockwise) about a half turn.

ah thats what you call it,having it screwed/turned nearly clockwise closed heats rads more and immersion less as in winter setting, and summer opened all the way.have a lever to shut off flow to rads and heat immersion only.might that be correct?
