I believe strongly in this. Most people think they are tired but they are simply very dehydrated.

Drinking enough fluid per day is hard work as using this app will show you. I used a free app called hydro coach. The key is that you drink a little and often and the free app helps you do that. Would be interested in feedback for anyone that tired this app that often get cramps or feels tired.

How about something revolutionary? Drink to thirst?

Worked for me on 600km cycle Saturday and Sunday.

That sounds like madness! Next you'll say that I don't need an app to tell me when to go to the jacks.

There 's an app for going to the jacks.

I just downloaded it there Rom to see what the craic is. I agree with all of what you are saying about dehydration and how much of a difference it makes to performance.

The thing I found with the app is that the recommended amount seems very low. I was recommended to have an intake of 80floz a day by it and I nearly drink double that most days. I would struggle big time if I was only drinking that much.

I think it's a solid app for people who don't do much exercise but a big underestimator for long distance runners who need a lot more than that.

I wouldn't be gone on apps about health in general but that's beside the point. I think a runner should be drinking a lot more than it recommends.

U drink 4.6 liters a day. Wow. I find it hard to make the 3 or so it recommended me.

:D:o slight miscalculation! Not used to measuring in oz. I drink probably close to 4 litres most days.

Still way more than the 2.3 litres it recommended.

Hydration does not only come from water. Tea and other drinks contribute, as do vegetables, and fruit.

If people drink as much as they recommend in that article they'll be knackered from getting up to pee a few times a night!

Jesus. That sounds like an awful lot of water. I drink almost none of it myself, as actual water. I drink coffee, tea, juices, sports drinks, fruit/veg. Don't suffer with hydration issues.

A lot of people don't drink enough. People often mistake hunger for thirst, for example. And inadequate hydration isn't always obvious.

Takes a conscious effort for me to get a bit more fluid on board, especially when I'm training or whatever.

Do you think there are those who just don't need as much as others? I'd say I drink about a litre as 'stand alone water'. Then there's fruit and veg and so on. When I'm training in warmer conditions I'd drink more.

5 litres and I'd need a bag, or just move my 'office' to the jax.

there's a simple test I use. If my wee is pale and straw-coloured, I'm gameball. If you're getting dehydrated it gets more and more yellow.

Haha, As a kid i would never drink milk, tea or coffee. So with my dinners i would always drink water, even with a fry up. Still do today.

Now i do drink coffee, maybe one cup a day but love my water.

I drink very little stand alone water during the day. Normally a cup or two at lunch (say 400 mL) and a pint with dinner. I am trying to get in an extra litre a day by supping on a bottle at my desk but we aren't allowed eat or drink in my work environment (lab) so that's a bit of a pain in the balls.

The last line is excellent :
Consider this – sleep when you are tired, eat when you are hungry, urinate when your bladder is full AND drink when you are thirsty!!! There is a reason why we have a brain – maybe we should listen to it!!

I've been permanently tired, hungry and thirsty for about 3 or 4 years now, it's an unfortunate side effect of medication I'm on. I only drink about 1 litre of water a day, more when I run or cycle. Maybe if I try to double that it would help a little.

    I know...I don't understand your point?

I'm stating that this research which tells us to drink more water cannot be trusted as it is supported by a vested interest...ie "THE BOTTLED WATER INDUSTRY"
