Hi folks, quick question, I work in an open plan office and we have a guy who is consistently smelly here. He smells of old, stale BO, so it's more than likely from his clothes. He is actually very bad, any ideas what can be done? I don't know him well enough to say it but it makes me queasy its that bad.

Ask HR or his manager to have a word.

Don't say anything yourself if you're not in a position to.

Is it on a site with gmp regulations? It would be a condition of employment then, so hr could have a word.

Yes if he has a manager, that is the correct way to go. I have had to convey this message in the past to an employee, following complaints from their colleagues.

Spray yourself with deodorant. Then offer him some. If he has cop on he will take a hint!! :-D

Don't do or say anything to him personally. If you don't know him that well it could be construed as a form of intimidation or bullying.
Best to pass it to HR.

I know of a case where one employee in a team of highly paid professionals had very poor hygiene. They worked in a hospital. The co-workers went to HR and had them draw up a list of hygiene and dress regulations for employees - i.e. after your daily shower put on a clean shirt or blouse, properly pressed and well-fitting clothes inspire confidence etc.
