Can you pick up 'Free to air' channels (and/or Saorview) channels via a SkyHD box ( with cancelled subscription) using a smart TV?

    Cheers!

Whether the TV is a 'smart' box or not has no bearing on picking up the channels you're talking about. You attach the Sky box to the TV via HDMI cable so you're using the standard (connectivity) features that every TV has.

Saorview, definitely not, you need a UHF aerial. Rooftop recommended but given the right conditions, you may be able to use an indoor aerial.

Free to air channels on satellite, yes. This does not include the Irish channels which you can only pick up from satellite if you have a Sky subscription.

Moved to satellite. You can pick up FTA channels using the Sky box. Some smart TVs have a DVB-S tuner in which case you might prefer to ditch the Sky box completely.[/b]

just plug the lead from the dish into the back of it?
    (assuming it fits somewhere!)
The wife thinks the chap in the shop mentioned the TV can pick up channels via the sky dish.

the tv is obviously a lot smarter than me!
took the two leads out of the sky box and put them into the tv, retuned it and boom 400 channels (of shyte) and its still tuning them.
