I injured my knee in Judo on Dec 2013.
I was misdiagnosed as having a meniscus tear but went for an mri in jun 2014 and was diagnosed with a torn ACL
I was then put on a waiting list and found out a year later that they are currently dealing with patients from 2011!!
This is a complete farce, I'm crippled from the injury and everyday I'm on it, I'm damaging it more, but according to the HSE must wait another 3 years to be seen.
I feel uterlly let down by this country and drastic change is needed, anyone have advice on how to get seen quicker?

Yeah pay out of your own pocket i.e go private. The other poster suggested national treatment purchase fund, but as far as i know they dont do anything that could help you since 2011

Are/were you not insured by your judo club?

Like most sports, the club pays for treatment to a certain extent if you got injured during training/competitions.

The waiting lists are shocking but to be fair do you think you should skip ahead of someone who has been waiting since 2011.

See if the Judo club has insurance that pays for the treatment if you get injuried while training/competition. This policy is normally part of clubs membership fees and go private.

Advice? Pay for it yourself and you'll be seen next week.

I'd go without a lot of things before going without health insurance.

With the way waiting lists are going in this country Private Health Insurance is really becoming more and more necessary if you can possibly afford it.

It's an absolute necessity in my eyes. I'd cut off the electricity/fuel in my house before I'd drop health insurance.

    Come on, really?

Although the health insurance would come in handy if you got hypothermia.

Ah Heavens! The only advice I'll give you is to go Private straight-away! Seriously.
Every day you wake up in pain and injured is a day your general well-being & your mental well-being is being compromised. Then factor in every one around you when you are definitely not 100%! Get yourself checked out this week or next and stop waiting.
    Can you make savings somewhere?
Can you borrow from a loved one?
Can you borrow from a CreditUnion per chance?

When I was thrown off my bike in Nov 2012 what saved me and my well-being was I went private. More than sufficient scans were done ; consultants and specialists were seen ; no-way would my back nor my patience have survived years of waiting for public health-care. No-way.

I actually borrowed from my now Late Loving Dad for some treatments. Dad also drove me to & fro scans; appointments; etc as I couldn't drive nor would he let me risk further damage by driving myself.
From the info I was given I was able to formulate my own treatment and recovery plan ; my own training plan(s) ; my own health and well-being plan ; I'd plans for everything that I stuck to and that's what's got me back to the fitness and well-being I am at today!
^^^ It did all start though with : Private scans ; private consultants.

Don't risk further long-term damage to your injury. Remember this: Each time you don't put even weight on your ligaments and bone-stuctures = more un-even wear & tear.
Now, Think 20years down the line how your un-even your body and alignment will be.

Don't deter from getting your body seen to! Hopefully you can make savings somewhere or someone can assist you short-term with finding the monies to get yourself seen to :)

Just think of your general health & mental well-being.
Just think of everyone around you.
Just think of your body in 20years time.

    Wishing you A Safe Recovery,
    kerry4sam
