Cutting Up with a Slimming World Diet?

    Hi Everyone.

So I recently started dieting with the end goal: getting my body more defined/toned.

My mother recently started up slimming world. Some of you might of heard of it but basically it's a diet class you attend once a week and check your weight. On your first time you're supplied with a diary and a book full of healthy recipes. It's very similar to Weight Watchers but they have an alternative to counting calories. Instead, they eat "Free foods" and are allowed 15 "Syns" a day. It seems a great alternative to counting calories and some of the meals are absolutely yummy!

Anyway, the program has been a huge success for my mother and her friend having lost two stone in her first couple of weeks.

My question is would this kind of diet be suitable for cutting up (with a little extra protein of course)?

I haven't calculated my Body Fat Percentage but I can tell that if I shed a few more pounds I would have a good muscular shape to me and I'm trying to figure out the easiest/best way to this.

Also what kind of balance between cardio/muscle training would yous recommend?

    Thanks in advance

    Dean

There's a book full of them. I'll give you a few meal examples:

Breakfast: Porridge Oats w/ water or Low-fat milk.

Lunch : Baked beans on 2 slices of wholemeal bread.

Dinner: Chicken/pork/beef roast with dry roasted potatoes and any combination of fresh veg.

Syns: These are a bit complicated but as I said above, you get 15 a day. To give you an idea:

A full size American style chocolate muffin is 18.0 Syns.

A ham sandwich is 14.0 Syns.

    McChicken Sandwich 19.5 Syns.

Free foods are supposedly fat free or very insignificant in fat loss. They also don't affect your "Syns" count.

Well I mean fat free and "insignificant in fat loss" are two completely different things ...
It sounds a bit complicated to me. I'd go with the advice in the "diet plan" thread
Lots of meat and veg and good fats, really
But if slimming world sounds appealing and works for you, you can give it a go

    The 'Correct Diet Plan' thread:

Tbh, I don't think tracking is all that much more difficult beyond the first week and you get a better appreciation of what you're taking in.

I wouldn't even look at that thread. There is a massive snobbery around this kind of thing and especially so when it's directed at Slimming World and the like.

Swimming World works for a lot of people but there are certain things it doesn't do brilliantly so people offer solutions that might help build on what SW does well.
