This is not a Mass for a No result, but rather a Mass for those who were brave enough to stand up and be counted, as they faced the wrath of the Liberal orthodoxy.

Well done one and all. :)

What about the bravery of those who stood up to be counted and admitted to the world that they wanted to have their love and commitment recognised by society?

Lets not forget about the brave LGBT community who have been ridiculed in Ireland for a large number of years, and again during this campaign.

    Well done to them!

Sadly the end of times was always seen as a time of great apostasy. Where wealth is valued more that life, monuments more than people. Evils greatest triumph making humanity believe that God does not exist.

Nice fairy story designed to keep the feabil minded in check that's all any religion is imo.

Actually there were no spelling mistakes in that post. But there is a glaring punctuation error in your post. Two, in fact.

Perhaps you should stick to the point and not pick on things that are irrelevant. Those in glasshouses...

I met a nun today in the polling station who summed up the reason for voting No...A matter of conscience. I may disagree with her on a lot of points of theology but she was spot on.

I'll know within a few hours in the morning at the count if Ireland still fears God and obeys Him

I sacrificed a chicken for a YES win. Sacrificed it with gravy and mash.

    Looks like chicken beat mass.

That actually doesn't sum it up at all. Since the issue has nothing to do with her religion, her conscience doesn't come into it. She is being asked to allow people to exercise a right other people have.

Anyway, to go back to the original post - I don't get this "getting a mass said for...." I thought the mass was a re-creation of the original last supper. Not an event where you can ask for favours.

Can someone explain the theology of this to me?

Happily, it looks like she'll still get to live her live according to the dictates of her conscience, at least in terms of marriage. Her life of chastity will be respected, and won't make a blind bit of difference to anybody else. And every marriage, gay or straight from here on in, won't make a blind bit of difference to her or her life.

    Win/win. Equality rocks.

No big deal getting a mass said for someone, sure isn't it just another variation on the theme of giving somebody a public pat on the back except in a catholic context.

If Christ came back today and preached the same message he would be killed the same. Our world is obsessed with wealth, status, pleasure. Its all about what I want.

I'm not talking about gay people here, i mean in general.

If Christ came back and did the same miracles, cured the same people he would be killed the same, because he would challenge some very powerful forces in THIS world.

I'm not sure. I don't quite know what "getting a mass said" actually means. Is it support? Or some kind of attempt to influence an outcome? I just don't get it.

So, are you having a pray for those who challenge the God that according to their own beliefs created all of us equals?

In real terms I'd imagine it's mainly from column A, in terms of catholic spiritualism I'd wager it's more weighted towards column B with a bit of column A thrown in for good measure but that's just a cynical outsider's take

Why? Has God made a public statement on his views as to whether all his children deserve the same love and respect? Must have missed it.

I'm sorry but that is a glaring error. The Roman Catholic Mass is not a re-creation of the last supper, it IS the sacrifice at Calvary. Few people take the time to actually understand that bit and it is not easy to understand.

Btw well done to all who took part in the Rosary Crusade to Our Lady, I know there is probably a few of you lurking around here. It saved other Catholic nations in some pretty dire times over the years.

Re-creation is the wrong word, I know. I do understand what it is, in RC AND in Anglican theology.

My point is that I don't understand how, in the RCC, it seems to be used as some kind of occasion for petitioning, rather than what it is supposed to be.
