Recently failed my nct with my 97 polo because of one of my front springs was broken. I went to a local mechanics and was quoted €200 to be fixed. I searched online and found springs for the car for only €37 and read that it's only 30 min work. Does anyone know of anywhere to get this done cheap

I reckon that quote included two springs, so at least you have a matching axle.

    hi

always better to replace springs or shocks as a pair , you never know when the other one way break. 200e aint bad price if it includes both springs.

    regards

200 is a fair price, maybe 30 mins if you know what your doing, worth having a go yourself if you ok with spanners, you;l need spring compressors, spanners. sockets, wd40, axel stands & a jack

+ you will need to do both L & R together

plus the mechanic could be quoting for genuine parts and not spurious parts

    Just the one spring

    Just the one spring

It could well fail the retest on imbalance. As stated already, shocks and springs should be replaced in pairs.

Not the done thing, not a very professional mechanic at all.
Always replace suspension & brake parts in sets. Any garage with a half decent reputation will tell you that.

Try buying suspension parts from Alfa Romeo and you'll change your tune pretty quick ;)

I do. Just replaced both upper arms on a 156 I have.

Try buying suspension parts for Porsche...

Anyway each to their own but anyone coming into my garage gets all brake & suspension parts replaced in pairs.

Good for you, and I know that's how it's supposed to be. But if I come to your garage, you will only change what I'm willing to pay for;)

I get where your coming from, but it gets done right or not at all. Don't need comebacks because owners don't understand the benifits of a job done correctly. (Auld one voice) "you replaced a spring on my car last week and now it's sitting higher one one side than the other. Did you do it right" etc.
