All other things being equal, how much more is an E60 with new timing chain worth than one without the work done?

Hard to tell as there is now a recall to get it done under warranty AFAIK.

There is a goodwill offer from BMW, but not all cars are getting it.

They made a very good film about the search for good will from BMW

Given the general publics complete lack of interest in all things mechanical, they'll just hear BMW and the words "timing chain replaced" will be a mumble. Unless it's a particularly sought after model that enthusiasts would be interested in, in which case you might have a case to ask for more, I can only see it making the job of selling marginally easier rather than expecting any extra value.

Or...Potentially could make it harder to sell - given said public lack of knowledge. When you start seeing things replaced that shouldn't need replacing (ignoring faults)....
