Bus Eireann Expressway - Buying ticket for further destination

    Hi all,

Excuse the badly worded title, I wasn't sure how to say what I was trying to there.

Essentially, a Bus Eireann Expressway route goes from Dublin to the wesht, and passes through my home place. When I go on to the website I can't book Dublin to my home place, but I can book it for the end destination.

Has anyone ever done this where you buy the ticket for somewhere and get off at a prior stop?

(I'm looking at the €7.99 one way tickets so I'm not bothered about the return aspect here)

The sale is for the specific locations listed only - you would be liable to pay the full fare if you want to go to a point not listed.

There would be no problem getting off at any stop along the route, just as long as you get on at the place it is booked from.

This is not the case with the €7.99 fares - there are strict rules about where you can board and leave the bus to avail of them.

In the same way that if you bought a ticket from A to C and decided to get off at B, no driver would have a problem allowing any passenger off at any legitimate stop. Over travelling on your ticket is one thing, under travelling is not.

This €7.99 "seat sale" is very targetted. For example, customers at Athlone can buy them for journeys to Dublin, Galway & Westport; passengers from Kilkenny can get them to Dublin; yet passengers from Portlaoise cannot participate at all despite the 12 being an Expressway service - only Limerick - Dublin is available on that route. However, we are used to it here - after all, it will only be a matter of time before the 12 follows the 8 in being routed non-stop via the motorway, leaving us with just the 73 for our BÉ subvention contribution. Going to Dublin by bus - you can have the joys of LUAS Red Line from Red Cow after getting the Dublin Coach service - or hope your journey co-incides with the somewhat unbalanced Kavanaghs offering.

Under the terms of this offer, that appears to be the case. Theterms on the webpage only refer to boarding points. Doesn't help the Portlaoise situation I referred to above though!

Terms and conditions, point 5 :
    5. Tickets can only be redeemed from the stop, date and time of travel you selected when purchasing your ticket online. Journey must be taken from point of origin and at time selected when booking. Failure to do so will result in tickets not being honoured when boarding bus.

    No comment on alighting.
