Advice on buying a used car - Budget around 5-6k

    Hi there,

    I'm looking to upgrade from a Fiat Seicento to something a bit more decent (wouldn't be hard ;) )but I really just don't know what to go for. I was thinking something in a 4 door hatchback like a Golf but I know they can be pretty expensive and I've hear a lot of mixed reviews from people who own them as in they're not as reliable as they're reported to be.

    I've been driving for 7 years, 30 yo but just not very knowledgeable about motors. Anyone have any advice for a 5-6k budget? Wouldn't rule out a saloon car either if it was suitable.
