Old silver coin

    Hi was just wondering if someone could help me out please? I found what looks to be an old silver coin when I younger and just happened to stumble across it the other day.Now I'm not sure but it looks to be a coin is there any where in Ireland where I could get it looked at or maybe someone here could tell me if it is indeed a coin and if there is any sort of value on it thanks

    It's not possible to tell for certain without having the coin at hand, but to me it looks like a modern forgery or restrike (probably an Ashmore forgery) of a Norse or Anglo-Saxon coin from c. 995 to 1095. I'm pretty certain it's not Irish. If it's genuine it could be worth anything from 200 Euro upwards, however to me it doesn't look it. Best to bring it to the next coin fair in Oct. and have a few dealers look at it as they'll know straight away if it's genuine. Just can't be certain from photos like this.

    It looks extremely like the replicas struck at "viking" recreation events around the country and sometimes sold in places like Dublinia, Ferrycarrig, etc.
