When a pcp contract is about to end are you restricted to using the dealer who set it up, e.g. you have decided to get another car of the same marque can you shop around with other main dealers. Thanks in advance.

You can go anywhere you like, even other marques.
At the end of the day if for example you are trading in an audi and want to get a bmw, all audi require of you is that you pay the final payment. Bmw for example will set up your new finance deal that will cover that audi final payment and in general your audi will be worth abit more than is owed on it so you have some deposit right there.

Seeing as you are sticking to same marque, there is no issue whatsoever. Whoever the dealer is, they will seek settlement figure from finance company and work the deal from there.

Depending on the car condition, it may be more profitable to refinance the end payment with the dealer or credit union and sell the car privately . Pay off the loan immediately and walk into the next purchase with a hefty deposit.

I will owe 9000 on my new golf in 3 years. But a 3 year old well specced low milage golf could fetch 18-19k privately .

I could get a new GTI with a very healthy 10k deposit.
