Ridiculous Import Charges Ordering From Gamestop

Hi there, not sure where to post this, but I guess the tax place is as good as any place.

I recently made a purchase on Gamestop.com, for goods that I could not purchase in my local area. The goods I wished to buy were two Skylander Adventure Packs for my nephew, which came to €50-odd, pretax. A further €20-odd was added to this sum at check out, bringing the total sum of my order up into a little over €70 (I don't have exact figures on me at present).

That's fine. Bit the bullet. Paid up. Only then, upon receiving my order today was I further tapped for a ridiculous €35 by courier, UPC! What?!

I understand that there may be some duty and import charges due, but upon further inspection of this blinder of a bill, I can reveal that the extra charges...seem to be all VAT related!

First, I got charged VAT of 17.20. Then, I got charged something called 'OTHER CHARGES,' which gives a value of 14.50. Then, once that's tallied and given a gross sum of €31.70 for total charges, yet MORE vat is added onto that, bring the TOTAL TOTALLL amount due up to €35.04.

What is the reasoning behind this?

I've made orders from around the globe quite a few times in the past, receiving packages that were both larger and heavier than the one that landed on my doorstep this morning, but not a single bill ever landed on my doorstep. So why did I get stuck paying this hellish fee, would any know?

It most certainly is the last time I'm going to be ordering internationally from Gamestop. Unless the fault lies with UPC?

Did you contact UPC? "Other charges" could be anything - they'll have to explain that one to you a little bit better.

Couriers (FedEx, UPS, DHL etc.) tend to add a flat admin fee (usually €10-€20) for processing import charges - and then there is VAT on this. It's very annoying when the amount involved is small - their admin fee ends up being the majority of the cost. I try to get stuff sent by post where possible - An Post's fee is usually less - maybe €5/6.
